To provide precise service to management and consumers by:
Provide management with accurate reports of tasks done by substation maintenance.
Training personnel for efficient and productive working habits.
Promoting safety in the use of tools, and equipment to minimize accidents, and minimize outages, which result in injury or lost time, thus promoting productivity under safe working conditions.
Promoting a high standard of morale and team effort for greater satisfaction
II. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
A. Reports to the Chief of Substation
B. Coordinates with:
1. Substation Lead Journeyman
2. Power Supply Manager
3 Engineering Services Manager
4. System Operations.
5. Engineering Technician
Within the established policies assume the responsibilities for the following:
Scheduling day-to-day substation operation and maintenance activities in
conjunction with the director of substation in accordance with GEC procedures, policies, and safety regulations.
Plan a daily schedule which will utilize manpower, equipment, and materials as effectively and productively as possible.
a. Make recommendations for additional training which would increase efficiency and productivity.
Assist in planning the work of substation personnel.
Complete daily time sheets and on-time paperwork
Inspect substations periodically each month.
Read substations and down-load substation meters monthly.
Check for proper operation of mechanical switches and breaker maintenance.
Test oil for contamination, carbon and dissolved gases at least once a year.
Test relays as required
Disassemble and repair oil circuit breakers and other devices as required.
Test and filter insulation oil
Perform switching operations
Trouble shoot and repair SCADA system
Install, maintain and repair regulators controls
Maintain substation yard
Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams
Operate protective relay test equipment
Inspect and maintain station batteries
Be familiar with personal computers and computerized equipment
Maintain an attitude of respect for the public and GEC members when on the job, which will reflect well on GEC.
Participate in the safety programs and in the training of safety and job training.
Be familiar with the operation of all power operated equipment and hand tools, volt meters, insulation oil testing equipment, painting machine, bucket trucks, auger trucks, and all other testing equipment.
Be available for on-call and stand-by duties after normal working hours.
Check station and line regulators for proper operation and setting.
Utilize resources to have a positive impact on GEC profitability.
Enforce all safety regulations.
Keep the supervisor informed of problems, status, solutions and achievements.
When required, assist in maintenance of generators.
Constantly seek cost saving methods, without affecting quality of service.
Positively promoting GEC programs such as system restoration, Strategic Planning etc.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
By virtue of education, experience, knowledge, ability, skill or personal attributes, applicants for this position should meet the following specifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED. Rural Electric Cooperative experience a plus. Must be willing to continue educational process by all means available and necessary.
Experience: Successful completion of Substation Apprentice Program.
Job Knowledge: Should be familiar with all phases of substation work, tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
Leadership/Motivational Skills: Should exhibit ability to lead others through means that are compatible with a positive working environment. Must be able to motivate others. Team building ability is essential.
Abilities and Skills: Must have the ability to supervise and direct personnel in the substation department. Have the ability to plan and implement work schedules. Have a Florida Class A C.D.L. license, and training in First Aid and CPR.
Attitude: Must represent the company in a positive, professional manner. Be a positive, productive team leader and have a positive impact on the morale of others.
Working Conditions: Will be required to be on stand-by, and work overtime regularly. Volume of overtime varies.
Train subordinates in a manner to minimize accidents.
