Provides and coordinates an overall telecommunications philosophy for Hoosier Energy’s power delivery facilities and oversees the design and application of optimum telecommunications for all transmission equipment and personnel. Assures the development of designs and specifications of Hoosier Energy’s fiber optics, microwave, radio and telephone systems or devices. Assures compliance with Hoosier Energy’s project management structure, NERC/RRO and other industry standards and successful mitigation of constraining issues. Ensures communication collaboration within and between departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides the technical expertise, specifies, and coordinates the communication schemes and equipment. Provides the layout and equipment specifications for all communications projects and system applications. Oversees the design of power delivery communication equipment. Assures compliance with Hoosier Energy’s project management structure, NERC/RRO and other industry standards and successful mitigation of constraining issues.
Makes short- and long-range schedules of communications installations in coordination with other departments. Provides technical input for the review of all future plans for facilities. Prepares the annual work plan and budget of the implementation of communications projects. Stays abreast of telecommunications technologies, and researches and develops innovations, alternatives and/or expansions of telecommunications services with emphasis on logistics, economy and service.
Reviews the specifications, operational check-outs and other verifications of newly-acquired equipment for the compatibility with existing and future system applications. Formulates settings and reviews the logic and control schemes that will ensure compatibility with the overall power system network communications.
Represents Hoosier Energy in collaborating with Managers and staff of Member Cooperatives or interconnected utilities in the specification, installation, calibration, testing and operational analyses of schemes and equipment of telecommunications.
Reviews, or prepares reports about telecommunications system growth including both voice and data traffic loading and recommends system modification as appropriate. Analyzes and responds to the suggestions of others; makes recommendations to the Department Manager about any practices, procedures, system requirements or improvements that will facilitate maintenance schedules, short- or long-range plans, or any other efficiencies or cost improvements. Formulates and files evidence to assist Subject Matter Experts prove compliance with NERC and RRO reliability standards that pertain to the transmission system, power supply and generation operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Ability to obtain P.E. license is desirable
Five years’ of progressively more technical responsibility in the design and application of communication facilities and equipment
