Key Roles East Kentucky Power Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Fuel Inventory Accountant at our Winchester, Kentucky headquarters. This position is responsible for recording generation fuel activity at all plant locations and maintaining all applicable subsidiary fuel inventory records. This position will also be required to analyze contracts and complex financial data, explain account variances, and ensure the proper, accurate, and timely completion of various accounting applications, related taxes, records, and financial reports within the established policies and requirements of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), various regulatory agencies (RUS, IRS, Kentucky Revenue Department, etc.), and East Kentucky Power Cooperative. Key Responsibilities - Analyzes terms and conditions of all generation plant fuel and related freight contracts.
- Maintains all fuel and freight contract information in the Coal Accounting System and updates as needed to reflect contract amendments, escalations, or other changes in contract terms.
- Processes and reconciles daily fuel purchases and related freight for all plant locations.
- Verifies that fuel and freight invoices correspond to contract or purchase order provisions and communicates with suppliers as needed to reconcile differences.
- Records fuel usage data for all plant locations and works closely with the plants to ensure proper tracking of interplant transfers and related inventory balances.
- Prepares month-end accruals for fuel related accounts.
- Maintains fuel subsidiary records and reconciles all balances to the general ledger monthly.
- Maintains close working relationship with plants, fuel procurement department, and lab.
- Prepares monthly inventory analysis reports for management and the Board of Directors.
- Prepares various regulatory reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Provides information to internal and external auditors, as requested.
- Supports special projects as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
