Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC), a member-owned electric distribution utility that serves over 32,000 members in Northern Vermont, seeks an Accountant / Work Order Specialist to join its Finance Team. This individual plays a vital role in the organization’s success by administering our utility work order system and plant asset records. The individual in this position applies their general knowledge of accounting and utility construction principles to ensure all applicable costs are accurately charged to plant records. They collaborate with other departments to keep apprised of current capital projects and resolve project cost discrepancies.

VEC is seeking a self-motivated individual that has an eye for detail. Candidates should have examples where they have demonstrated success with solving problems and identifying opportunities to continuously improve. They should work well in a collaborative, team-based environment but also independently. This individual must possess solid communication skills that prove to be effective when interacting with others inside and outside of the organization.
They should demonstrate a high level of organization, initiative, and enthusiasm to work within a constantly changing industry. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products especially Excel.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
This position requires an Associate’s Degree in business, accounting, engineering, or related studies and 2 years’ of utility experience where knowledge of utility materials and/or utility construction has been obtained. Or 4 years of applicable utility experience in lieu of education with general knowledge of accounting principles. Candidates should have experience working within a database and/or integrated accounting system.
