Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc. , the 9th largest cooperative in the nation, located in Keystone Heights, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lineman in our Salt Springs District. Clay Electric is located in north Florida, with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and both college sports and NFL.
Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform the most advanced and skilled work required in connection with the construction, maintenance, operations and service of transmission, overhead and underground distribution lines, protective equipment, substations and related equipment owned and operated by the Cooperative.
Essential Job Functions include:
Construct and Maintain Power Lines. Install, remove, inspect and maintain both overhead and underground lines and equipment.
Switching Operations. Perform switching operations on energized and de-energized lines and equipment, utilizing the Electric Systems Control Manual, UAI system and all safety precautions.
Troubleshooting and Outage Restoration. Working independently or with others, systematically perform all duties associated with troubleshooting lines and equipment to restore electric service.
Operation of Equipment. Operate construction equipment such as line truck, bucket truck, trenchers and other equipment as required. Comply with all traffic laws and related safety rules and safe work practices.
Promote Safety. Practice and promote safe work habits on a daily basis while documenting safety activities on the proper forms and staying abreast of, adhering to and enforcing the Cooperative Safety Manual. Is held accountable for his/her and his/her employees’ safety performance.
Use and Care of Tools and Equipment. Be responsible for the use, care and security of tools, vehicles, equipment and materials utilized. Keep vehicle and equipment clean and orderly, noting repairs as needed.
Supervision as Required. Provide supervision for crew members as assigned in the absences of Line Foreman or other supervisor.
Other Duties. Each employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members.
Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
This position requires a high school certificate or State of Florida GED passing grade plus additional training consisting of the Clay Electric's Lineman Development Training Program, or equivalent, and four (4) years of experience in an electric distribution utility preferably through the progression of Apprentice line work.
This position requires a valid Florida Class A commercial driver's license or a Florida Class A restricted commercial driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
This position requires a knowledge of overhead line construction, underground construction, maintenance and service practices for various electric plant facilities. Must have a basic knowledge to understand and apply terms and conditions of service, applicable electric codes and Clay Electric drawings and specifications, safety rules, stringing charts and other related publications. This position requires the ability to read and understand Clay Electric’s mapping system through the use of a personal computer or laptop computer.
This position requires the ability to withstand regular and strenuous physical activity such as climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing and picking up heavy objects during the course of a normal workday and in all types of weather. This position requires after hours work due to work load and/or emergency situations.
This position requires the ability to perform on-call and/or back-up duties. These assignments will be made at the discretion of the supervisor and considered a part of accepting this position.
