Bandera Electric Cooperative (BEC, www.banderaelectric.com), a growing, member-owned rural electric cooperative located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader to fulfill the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). BEC serves over 37,000 meters along 4,600 miles of line in seven Central Texas counties. Annual revenues are in excess of $80 million. The Cooperative employs 120 employees, 20+ who are situated under the CFO’s areas of responsibility. BEC’s ancillary services are also growing, including broadband, solar and transmission. BEC’s mission is to use the grid to empower its members.
The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the administrative, legal, regulatory and financial affairs of the Cooperative through oversight of the Finance and Accounting, Administration, Member Relations, and Information Technology departments. The CFO is an important member of the Executive management team and reports directly to the CEO. This position participates in BEC’s strategic planning and execution process and provides leadership in business planning and quality improvement processes.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar discipline. An advanced degree in a relevant business field is desirable. The individual shall have at least eight years’ experience in the finance, accounting, and administrative areas at an electric utility with a minimum of five years at the senior management level. Must either have a CPA license or become licensed within one year. Demonstrated strong leadership, communication and analytical skills are required. Must have experience in general accounting procedures and policies, FERC/RUS Uniform System of Accounts, budgeting, financial forecasting, purchasing, IT, liability and property insurance, accounting systems, finance, strategic planning, and debt and investment portfolio management. The individual will understand GAAP, internal control, utility billing, rate design, consumer credit, patronage capital credits, procurement processes, contracts, and the regulatory environment of electric cooperatives.
