The Communications Specialist is responsible for communications for the cooperative. Develops and implements communication programs and messages to educate and inform members and cooperative staff. Writes, creates, develops and implements content through various media including electronic and print publishing, marketing, video and social media. The Communications Specialist works with the cooperative’s leaders and subject matter experts to create internal and external communications in support of the cooperative’s strategic goals. Lead the cooperative’s modern, engaging and professional communication efforts:
Develop content for internal and external communications including research/writing/editing, creating photography or video assets, formatting and assembling content in appropriate platforms or applications for distribution.
Evaluate and rate communications efforts; develop strategies to address weaknesses and leverage successes.
Develop and manage marketing campaigns and collateral.
Leads and directs social media efforts including creating and scheduling content, monitoring social media activity and coordinating responses as needed.
Maintain the cooperative’s website(s) including developing and managing relevant content.
Research and script press releases, conduct interviews, maintain media contact lists and media relations documentation.
Ensure messages are consistent, follow appropriate branding guidelines and support the cooperative’s Mission, Vision and strategic goals.
Is responsible for maintaining the marketing budget to meet the advertising, marketing and outreach goals; develop annual marketing budget and work plan.
Keeps informed of trends and developments within their area of responsibility.
Collaboration and Representation 20%
Collaborate with other team members and external agencies to develop campaigns and collateral.
Develop strong working relationship with local media representatives.
Represent the cooperative at meetings and activities at the local, regional, state and national level.
Perform other duties as assigned.

None. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasional outdoor activity in all weather conditions is required. Physical Demands This is a largely sedentary role; however, the ability to travel in all weather conditions on unimproved roads and/or hiking on rough terrain is required to document field activity Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative operates on a four/ten work schedule. Primary location will be (SPECIFY LOCATION HERE); however, location is dependent on business needs and is subject to change. Work outside of typical hours is required to attend media events, travel, and document field work related to utility construction and outage restoration. Travel Ability to travel to the different district offices required. Occasional travel to training seminars and/or conferences.
Two years’ experience in communications, media, journalism or a related field
Two years’ experience managing digital and social media platforms
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; 8-10 years of experience in a related field may be considered in-lieu of a degree.
Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurability.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications * Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite and common website building applications.
Must use good judgement and discretion and able to keep information confidential.
Reliable transportation for getting to work.
Must be free from illegal drugs; may be subject to random and /or suspicion testing.
