Great River Energy is seeking a relay technician electrician in Grand Rapids, MN to provide for the operation, installation, testing, checkout and maintenance of relaying, controls and associated equipment on the Great River Energy (GRE) system.
The position will train between the Elk River, MN and Grand Rapids, MN facilities for up to two years prior to relocating to the Grand Rapids, MN service center. This position is eligible for relocation expenses.
•Two-year technical degree or diploma in electrical/computer/electronics related courses. •Transmission system protection and control experience and the equivalent of two years of directly related electrical experience is preferred. •Strong electrical and relaying aptitude, prior experience working with power system protection, electromechanical and microprocessor relays strongly preferred. •Knowledge of AC and DC circuits including Ohm’s law. •Knowledge of power transformers, as well as the use of current and voltage instrument transformers. •Knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment. •Familiar with Piloted relay protection schemes – tone, fiber optic and power line carrier. •Capable of testing Electromechanical and Microprocessor relays. •Skill and ability to use personal computers and related software including test equipment software, relay setting software, asset management software, Windows-based programs, and email. •Knowledge of AC power measurement, familiarity with inductance, capacitance, power factor, and vector analysis. •Skilled at effective communication that includes good interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication. •Skill and ability to read, analyze circuit diagrams, prints, and drawings. •Ability to distinguish colors on wires, control panels, and equipment. •Ability to perform “switching personnel” duties when required. •Ability to be self-motivated and be able to work alone without direct supervision. •Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license to perform the essential job functions. •Ability to maintain a current medical card to perform the essential job functions. •Ability to live within a 30-mile living or 45 mile driving distance from reporting location. •Ability and willingness to complete apprentice training.
