RATE OF PAY: Bargaining Unit Position: $44.97/hour
WORK HOURS: 6:30a.m.–5:00p.m., half-hour lunch, either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday. Overtime as necessary. On-call per bargaining agreement.
POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
The SpecialEquipmentRepairer works under the direct supervision of the SpecialEquipmentRepairer Foreman and Operations Superintendent and tests, repairs and calibrates a wide variety of special electrical equipment and sensitive test gear.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Frequently repairs, cleans single and three-phase kilowatt hour meters to ensure accurate operation.
Frequently repairs and calibrates United Power’s field test equipment. Checks current and potential of all transformers removed from service to ensure proper equipment operation.
Conducts tests at regularly scheduled intervals on all of United’s single-phase and three-phase kilowatt hour electric meters. Testing is accomplished by use of test panel and reference meters.
Regularly repairs and maintains all hydraulic tools, OCR’s, regulators, power transformers, capacitors, primary metering, and related line and substation equipment.
When requested, connects single and three phase meters 200 amp and above to ensure proper operation and installation.
Investigates high bill complaints when received by setting and checking test meters and volt recorders.
Frequently monitors and takes oil samples from electrical equipment that is not marked with “No/Non-PCB” labeling. Retires defective or PCB-contaminated equipment.
Performs routine and emergency maintenance of underground conductor using radar and other fault-finding equipment and locates buried line by use of specialequipment when the need arises.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Occasionally delivers parts and supplies to line crews.
Must be able to react to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. plus completion of established apprenticeship training program for SpecialEquipmentRepairers or the work they are to accomplish.
Experience in repair is completed through the apprentice program.
Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Must know, understand, and apply all OSHA regulations and safety rules necessary to perform the job.
Must know and be able to apply CPR/first aid techniques.
No Supervisory Duties. Occasionally may supervise work and aid in training of Apprentice SpecialEquipmentRepairer.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
Thirty-five percent (35%) of the time is spent standing, thirty-five percent (35%) walking, and another thirty percent (30%) sitting.
Frequently lifts and carries up to 60 lbs. and occasionally lifts and carries up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Occasionally putting transformers or other equipment into place, requires the ability to push/pull up to 150 lbs.
Operating hand and foot controls is done occasionally when driving a vehicle and operating the forklift.
Occasionally the SpecialEquipmentRepairer must climb ladders and climb hills to reach area where they must work. Balancing is constantly necessary when walking, standing and climbing. May also use the bucket truck.
In the course of their work, they must frequently stoop, kneel and crouch. Occasionally they will crawl. When frequently testing meters, they reach, handle, finger and feel.
Ordinary talking is occasionally necessary when communicating with other employees in person or on the two-way radio/cell phone and communicating with customers. Hearing ordinary conversation is occasionally necessary under the same circumstances.
Seeing “near” is constantly necessary in reading and testing meters. Seeing “far” is constantly necessary while driving and locating work area. For these same reasons, depth perception is important on a constant basis. Color vision is important while driving a vehicle. Field of vision and eye accommodation area frequently necessary.
The SpecialEquipmentRepairer job may occasionally require analytic ability, auditory discrimination, speaking ability, creativity, olfactory discrimination, writing ability, imagination, initiative and patience.
Due to the detail involved in the SpecialEquipmentRepairer’s job, he/she must constantly be alert and precise. It is important the SpecialEquipmentRepairer have ingenuity, problem-solving ability, spatial perception, memory, good concentration, judgment, reasoning, and visual discrimination.
Fifty percent (50%) of the SpecialEquipmentRepairer’s time is done outdoors and fifty percent (50%) is done indoors in the shop. The noise level is estimated at 70-90 decibels for sometimes one hour each day to six hours each day.
While working outdoors and in the shop repairing meters, occasionally works around fumes, odors, dusts, mists and gases. When working in the shop, frequently confronted with poor ventilation.
Frequently works around mechanical and electric hazards and toxic chemicals. When exposed to the elements outdoors, occasionally be susceptible to wind and sunburns.
