Position Summary: Sr. Controls Specialist overall responsibilities will include providing support & maintenance of the Distributed Control Systems (DCS) at the BEPC generation sites. The Sr. Controls Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert and will be responsible for maintaining / developing technology solutions in the area of process control systems and may provide direction on related projects associated with plant controls. The Sr. Controls Specialist conducts complex maintenance activities including significant changes to and new development of system logic, patching, and configuration changes to the various control solutions within then plants. The Sr. Controls Specialist will work on resolving complex system incidents and events leveraging experience with control theory, plant operations and root cause analyses.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Overview of on-going maintenance of the Distributed Control System. Routine vendor recommended maintenance activities, assessment and patching of the control system devices, large and/or complex enhancements/modifications, and system administration functions. Coordinate maintenance activities which require planning and require coordination with multiple IT teams, multiple business units (to facilitate planned outages), and vendors or contractors. Monitoring and providing technical support for the DCS system which requires 24/7 uptime. The support includes troubleshooting moderately complex technical issues, monitoring health and statuses, providing support in the form of education and training to the clients on the use of system, as well as providing support for other teams that have responsibility for supporting aspects of the system (such as networking). Work in concert with the Manager, Generation Engineering, plant management and Program Manager to develop and coordinate necessary perpetual controls systems maintenance, support and upgrades to enable the generation facilities high reliability. Develop and document functional requirements, process mappings and HMI templates for DCS system replacements or upgrades/updates. Comply with all NERC/CIP and BEPC Cybersecurity. Update and recommend internal processes and procedures to optimize efficiency and effectiveness and to meet compliance with changes in the standards. Establish and follow correct procedural steps when performing non-standard or new work.

Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school (preferred but may be substituted with 10+ years of hands on experience). Minimum of 15 years of responsible utility engineering including at least 12 years in hands-on controls systems work.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: Requires working inside in a controlled environment. Requires ability to travel to generation plants (approximately two hours in one direction) and work in an industrial setting. Requires occasional work outside in varying weather conditions. Requires sitting for extended periods of time. Requires working overtime and traveling at times with short notice. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted. Requires vision within normal range, corrective lens are permitted.
