EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalency. Certification from Linemen Training Center preferred. KNOWLEDGE: Properly identify and demonstrate use, care, and storage of tools required by line technicians. Demonstrate proper use and care of PPE, including the selection and use of correct PPE required for various assigned tasks. A beginning knowledge of RUS specifications, Nolin RECC specifications, and W/O procedures. Identify various circuits and other installations such as telephone wire and cables on a designated pole, including communications worker safety zone requirements per NESC. Identify various system devices such as capacitors, regulators, CT’s/PT’s, etc. Identify different types of conductors and when they are to be used. Demonstrate knowledge of electricity from the generation point to the member. CONTACTS: Crew members; members of the public. ABILITIES AND SKILLS: String out wire on the ground and make splices. Ability to disassemble materials taken from retired pole. Ability to assemble cross arms to be installed on poles. Demonstrate proper use of various knots used in line work. Demonstrate proper use of two-way radio system. Ability to inspect pole before climbing. Prepare a transformer for hoisting up a pole. Install ground rod at pole and make proper connections. Ability to properly frame some pole top assemblies, on the ground or while de-energized. Demonstrate ability to string and tie in conductors on de-energized poles. Read work orders and staking sheets correctly. WORKING CONDITIONS: May include inside office environment (10%) and outside (90%) in all types of weather, terrain and road conditions. Lifting up to 50lbs. OTHER: Must possess a valid driver's license. Class A CDL preferred. |
