Specific requirements and competencies include: · Solid Educational Background - High-school diploma or equivalent. Courses in electricity are desirable. · Preference will be given to a person who has attended hot-line school. Must have completed an Apprentice Lineman Program · Must have completed Central’s Smart Grid training program or the ability to complete within one year of employment. · Must be CPR and First Aid certified or possess the ability to obtain such certification within one year of employment. · Must have and maintain a valid Oklahoma "Class A" Driver’s License and meet all D.O.T. requirements. · Must be able to pass required Cooperative and Department of Transportation physical examinations and drug testing. · Must have previous experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution line and service. · Must possess a working knowledge of the construction and maintenance of overhead and/or underground electric distribution lines and substations, including the installation of meters, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors, sectionalizes, and oil circuit-reclosers. · Must know RUS/CREC Construction Specifications and be familiar with the National Electric Safety Code. · Must know how to use tools and equipment safely on energized and de-energized line. · Must be proficient in pole-top and bucket rescue procedures. · Must be skilled at pole-climbing and in using lineman's tools while working on a pole. · Should be adept at working with all materials, equipment, and apparatus used in the construction and maintenance of electric distribution lines, substations, and consumer services, and be able to carry out those responsibilities without supervision. · Should be able to serve as a lead lineman and take a crew out at any time. · Must prepare or complete all required forms and reports. · Must have basic computer skills. · Must become familiar with all company policies and procedures. · Analytical Skills – collects and researches data, identifies data relationships and dependencies · Communication - Expresses ideas and thoughts both verbal and written, exhibits good listening and comprehension, keeps others adequately informed and selects and uses appropriate communication methods. · Customer Service – Displays courtesy and sensitivity, manages difficult or emotional customer situations, meets commitments, responds promptly to customer needs and solicits customer feedback to improve service. · Excellent Problem Solving - Identifies problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully, develops alternative solutions, resolves problems in early stages and works well in group problem solving situations · Initiative – Volunteers readily, undertakes self-development activities, seeks increased responsibilities, takes independent actions and calculated risks, looks for and takes advantage of opportunities and asks for help when needed. · Self-Management - Regulates impact of own emotions upon others, remains focused and energized under stress, accepts criticism and recovers quickly from setbacks, projects realistic self confidence in abilities. · Use of Technology – Demonstrates required skills, adapts to new technologies, troubleshoots technological problems, uses technology to increase productivity and keeps technical skills up to date.
