Knowledge Knowledge of NESC standards and requirements, telecommunications transmission technologies for fiber optics and microwave systems, OSI network layers, Ethernet, IP frame and packet structure, TDM multiplexing and timing, electronic theory and AC/DC Power. Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Requires a combination of computer skills, troubleshooting, soldering and mechanical skills, to identify problems and perform precise repair work. Excellent documentation skills a must. Capability to complete required data entry and precise evaluations of fiber paths from traces taken with OTDR equipment is critical. Obtain and/or maintain first aid and CPR, fiber optic installer, tower climbing safety and rescue and radio frequency safety awareness training. Abilities Need to be organized and a self-starter. Ability to work safely in an electrically hazardous environment. Capability to communicate and coordinate ideas and concepts with peers, superiors and supervising managers. Must have good interpersonal skills to interact with all KAMO employees, member system employees and other utilities. Be involved with daily job briefings and communicate known hazards to all individuals present. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize time/workload to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines. Capability to adapt to changing business circumstances and handle multiple tasks. Experience & Education Associate Degree in High Voltage Line Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology or related discipline from an accredited trade school or university is required, plus seven (7) or more years of work experience. Equivalent industry experience may potentially be considered toward substitution of degree requirements. Licenses Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Any restrictions will be evaluated based on the nature of the job. Equipment Effectively use equipment such as, but not limited: fusion splicer, OTDR, underground cable locator, climbing gear (tower and utility pole), all telecommunication testing equipment including T1, Ethernet, RS232, personal protective equipment (PPE), hot sticks, tools (hand and portable power) and ladders. Must also be able to utilize test equipment that includes computers and testing software. Capability to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, crane, bucket truck, trenching and excavation equipment. Supervisory Responsibilities None. - Work Environment: Primarily field work with some general office duties. Subject to adverse weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and extended hours during emergency situations. May be subject to exposure to hazardous chemicals including, creosote pressure treated wood, transformer oil, herbicides, pesticides, diesel, denatured alcohol, contact cleaner and battery fluids with components and noise. May work in atmosphere with particles and or fumes.
Position Type/Expected Work Hours This is a full time position. Requires the flexibility to work during emergency situations. Requires flexibility to work irregular hours for assignment completion. Requires the flexibility to be on call, as required. Travel Position will require travel within KAMO service territory. Occasional out-of-state and overnight travel required for training, conferences and professional meetings. Safety Sensitive This is a safety sensitive position due to field work and exposure to energized facilities as well assignment with frequent driving of KAMO fleet. A safety sensitive job is one that includes tasks or duties that KAMO reasonably believes could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others. Due to the safety sensitive nature of this job, a constant state of mental alertness is required and no substance (including, but not limited to medical marijuana) may be used by the employee in this position which may impair the employee's ability to maintain said constant state of mental alertness. |
