Field Engineer East River Electric Power Cooperative is seeking an Electrical Engineer looking for a great career opportunity! This field engineering role will lead the energization and commissioning of substations in the Cooperative's transmission system to ensure that all electrical and mechanical equipment operate as intended and safety standards are met. The ideal candidate will have experience or training in electrical control circuits and electronic equipment. East River Electric is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative with a service area that covers 40,000 square miles. We deliver wholesale power to our members, which include 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally-owned electric system in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Our members, in turn, power the properties of the member-owners in their service territories. Our Community This job opportunity is located at our main campus in Madison, South Dakota. Learn more about Madison on our website: https://www.eastriver.coop/our-communities/ Key responsibilities include: - Plan, coordinate, guide and document the commissioning and energization of various substation protection, control and power circuits.
- Prepare and implement outage plans, energization plans, test procedures and detailed commissioning plans.
- Assist with the review of designs and specifications of protection and control systems and substation equipment.
- Coordinate and plan with members on distribution substation SCADA installations for existing sites.
- Ensure department procedures are being followed that align with internal, federal and state requirements.
- Assist in preparing specifications and cost estimates for material and equipment.
Ability to learn and operate Auto-CAD, AcSELerator QuickSet, and other related software. - Collaborate with field crews and subject matter experts to gain operational and technical insight.
Key requirements include: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry standards (IEEE, RUS, NESC).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to develop positive working relationships.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer-based systems and MS Office products.
- Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license within four years of hire, preferred.
