Northeastern REMC (NREMC) is seeking to fill an entry-level Groundman position. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and has a desire to enter an approved lineman apprentice training program to prepare for advancement to an Apprentice Lineman and eventual Journeyman Lineman. While you will eventually get to that birds-eye view of an office, you need to start on the ground . As you’re learning the cooperative’s line numbering and mapping system, you’ll also learn how to install and remove meters, locate underground secondary and primary lines, cut and remove trees, and handle a variety of tools and materials. Job duties will also include performing construction and maintenance activities including climbing and working from poles and ladders. Loading, unloading, handling, framing, setting and removal of poles and/or equipment. To maintain our excellent service reliability with our members, you’ll often be on the emergency 24-hour stand-by rotation to help restore power when needed due to vehicle accidents and storm related outages. Experience and Special Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License and a valid Class A commercial driver’s license or have the ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license within 3 months of working in this position.
- Ability to become certified in CPR and perform first aid.
- Will enter into an approved lineman apprentice training program when the opportunity is available.
- Willing to learn and become proficient in climbing poles
- Basic computer skills
Physical Qualifications As a lineman, your job will include a variety of physical demands, including but not limited to: climbing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, lifting, some repetitive motions, and visual acuity.
