Responsible for the development and implementation of Tri-State’s Insurance Management policies, programs and procedures. Assesses the corporation’s insurance needs, plans appropriate strategies to meet those needs, and effects the procurement of appropriate insured and self-insured coverages.

Hiring Salary Range: $108,000- $136,000
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILTIES
Establishes, manages and implements the Insurance Management policies, programs and procedures. Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement. Includes reviewing policies for accuracy and coverage. Orders policy changes as required providing adequate and necessary coverage for new locations and exposures.
Establishes and oversees the protection of corporate assets by determining appropriate insurance coverage, preparing and placing requests for quotations, negotiating favorable terms, procuring insurance policies, including annual renewals. Includes identifying and analyzing risk associated with multitude of exposures.
Provides excellent customer service and ensures excellent delivery of all insurance services to the corporation by coordinating all activity, and working cooperatively with brokers and carriers to deliver excellent quality services; collaborating with management for creative, logical and appropriate solutions to minimize risk to the corporation; advising senior level management on appropriate insurance management issues; and constantly improving and updating procedures and processes.
Manages the insurance program by overseeing the investigation and settlement of all insurance claims against the corporation; managing all data to appropriately track and report to insurance carriers; and managing Certificates of Insurance, or other forms of proof, process including timely processing to others, and validation of those provided to the corporation.
Reviews the functions and activities of Insurance Management in an effort to contribute to the corporation’s growth and financial stability and keeps abreast of pending and changing regulatory developments as well as obtaining insight on legislative agendas at state and federal levels.
Manages, plans and directs Insurance staff to effectively accomplish the corporation’s goals and objectives; recruits, employs, trains, supervises, and evaluates the Insurance Management staff.
Interprets, creates and alters contract language regarding insurance requirements, indemnity provisions, waivers of subrogation, etc., associated with all vendor and counterparty contracts in conjunction with the legal department and communicates on a regular basis with Legal staff for both contract reviews and any claims assistance that might be required.
Coordinates with the Safety and Environmental groups as needed in accident analysis, disaster planning and risk assessment.
Develops and manages annual budgets for the insurance program and performs periodic cost analysis.
Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or directly related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
Extensive knowledge of Insurance and Risk Management principles, practices and methodologies.
Working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations affecting Insurance and Risk Management systems.
Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written, internally and externally.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with a wide variety of people and lead a team.
Creative thinking and problem identification and solving skills a must.
Recognized as expert in the field, solid understanding of contracts and indemnities.
Experience
Ten (10) years of progressive professional experience involving Insurance or Risk Management, preferably in the electric utility business.
Experience with insurance procurement, claims and litigation management.
Experience with cost control, contract evaluation, broker selection, loss forecasting and budget development.
Experience with self-insurance, underwriting and submissions and property risk control
