Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) is seeking two Mechanics to join its Fleet and Inventory Team. These individuals play a vital role in our ability to provide reliable electric service to VEC members. We are looking to fill Mechanic positions in our Johnson and Newport districts.
We are looking for individuals with the ability to provide inspection, maintenance and repair to gas-powered, diesel-powered and electric vehicles. Our Mechanics are responsible for over 100 pieces of equipment in VEC's fleet. This includes Class 1 vehicles such as Ford Escapes, EV’s to Class 8 vehicles such as bucket and digger trucks along with excavators, trailers, booms, diesel generators, ATV's, etc.
These individuals enhance the service VEC employees provide to its members. They should be an essential service partner, resourceful and responsive to service and maintenance requests. Much of the work will be self-directed and in anticipation of maintaining fleet readiness and reliability.

• An Associate’s Degree in Occupational Science (A.O.S.) in Automotive Technology/Heavy Vehicle Technology or Automotive Certifications and experience with the practical aspects of heavy vehicle maintenance, critical Mechanic thinking skills, diagnostics, testing methods, use of specialized tools, hydraulic systems, customer service, and project facilitation. A Class A, Unrestricted Commercial Driver’s License is required. You will also need to be a State of Vermont Certified Inspection Mechanic. • Working knowledge of VEC standards, Operating Procedures, Safety and Cultural Expectations. • You should enjoy puzzles and be an excellent problem solver and solution seeker. • You must be a subject matter expert for all fleet services. • You are skilled in project facilitation and performance. • Your work should be detail specific, pro-active and responsive, dependable and organized with good record keeping and retrieval skills. • It will be essential for you to demonstrate commitment to serving our members as well as demonstrating loyalty and reliability to your team of VEC colleagues. • You have a willingness and ability to work extra hours. • You must be able to meet the physical challenges of the position, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, lifting, pushing as the tasks of the job require. • Be flexible, curious and expect continual training for anything new, of greater depth, or improved safety, technologies, procedures and change in general. • It will be necessary for you to take highly complex information to others in a way that is clear and understandable.
