Directs all engineering planning activities including work plans, sectionalizing studies, power factor correction, system losses, voltage reduction etc.
Ensures that all technical databases are current, accurate and fully integrated into cooperative operations.
Reviews, monitors, and performs technical studies involving feeder optimization, switching, voltage reduction, distribution automation, IT communications, etc.
Oversees and directs the cooperatives AMI system and MDM activities.
Oversees the enactment of voltage reduction and/or load control programs and directs when these programs are to be implemented/executed.
Oversees all distributed generation (DG) programs and ensures all applicable, standards, codes and program standards are met throughout the implementation process. Proposes and helps prepare policies pertaining to DG
Establishes settings and reviews daily reports from the cooperative’s outage management, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), automated metering infrastructure (AMI), meter data management (MDM) and/or other automation activities.
Ensures that all engineering planning work is in compliance with RUS standards, the NESC, and any other applicable codes and/or standards.
Keeps informed on all policies and procedures; interprets and relates all policies to supervised employees.
Prepares the annual work plan and budget for the engineering department.
Measures the performance of the engineering department with relation to budgeting, goals, and objectives.
Oversees the implementation and completion of any approved planning studies.
Develops and stimulates moral and motivates team enthusiasm throughout the department by making certain that all personnel reporting to him/her understand and accept their assigned responsibilities, by recognizing accomplishments, and by continually keeping them informed about the goals and direction of the cooperative.
Assists in the resolution of member problems or complaints.
Works with the Lead Dispatcher to establish dispatch job duties, functions and activities.
Works with the VP of Information Technology to ensure technology is strategically implemented and is compatible with all other technologies within the Cooperative, to ensure full integration of all operating systems and to coordinate system security and fire wall protection.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Professional Engineering Registration required.
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in electric utility engineering design.
