Constructs, maintains, and retains a working knowledge of the YVEA transmission and distribution electrical system including:
clearing right-of-way, digging pole and anchor holes, framing poles, setting poles and anchors,
stringing, sagging, armor rodding, tying in of conductors, making up and installing down guys,
Installing and maintaining underground equipment, cable, and special underground
Installs transformers, transformer banks, breakers, take-off assemblies, services, regulators, streetlights and related equipment, meters, lightning arrester equipment, etc. on energized or de-energized
Maintains and repairs switching structures and substations. Maintains and tests oil circuit breakers, oil circuit reclosers, sectionalizers, and transformers. Reads operations counters and forwards recorded
Patrols transmission and distribution lines and reports (in writing) conditions which may need
Assist meter technician in the construction or maintenance of C.T. and P.T. meter
Tests and reports voltage condition and load checks, balance loads; takes load and voltage surveys as
Performs standby as scheduled to answer trouble calls when
Maintains assigned vehicles and tools in a safe operating condition; refers vehicle repair work to mechanic in writing.
Completes all proper reports as relates to job briefings, truck maintenance, daily time and mileage reports, staking sheets, oil samples, switching orders, transformer changes, OCR & sectionalizer changes, pole and underground maintenance reports, outage reports, etc. as required to maintain proper files and documentation.
Performs other miscellaneous duties to accomplish the assigned work such as loading and unloading poles, transformers, and other material, reads meters, removes for testing, or makes field test of meters as required, operates two-way radio, etc.

Pre-requisites:
Completion of a qualified four-year apprentice lineman/line-worker training program with certification of the successful completion of the program or proof of previous employment as a journeyman lineman by another utility with a minimum of 4-years’
Class A CDL with a satisfactory driving and safety record
Working knowledge of the duties of the position with knowledge or ability to learn RUS construction specifications and a portion of the National Electric Safety Code,
Manual dexterity to maintain proper safety while performing work from the pole in hooks or in the bucket, while driving the line truck and in normal operation of a winch truck, line construction vehicle(s), snowmobiles, four- wheelers or other tools,
Ability to read, write and do arithmetic,
Ability to communicate clearly,
Demonstrated ability to follow directions and prioritize job tasks,
Ability to analyze information, coordinate people and resources and communicate with a variety of co-workers.
Thorough knowledge of first aid and CPR,
Basic computer knowledge

Essential Functions:
Employee performs duties around energized and de-energized electric plant and moving mechanical parts.
Physical Effort and Dexterity: Work is heavy and requires exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Lifting and carrying of 10 to 50 pounds is required. Reaching and lifting overhead is frequent. Job requires standing, crawling, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching a majority of the Performs work on poles at heights of up to 100 feet, normally in awkward positions. May spend long periods of time driving and/or riding in line construction vehicles to reach remote areas of the service territory. Work may be performed in confined spaces in awkward positions. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt, toxic or caustic chemicals may occur.
Visual Acuity, Hearing & Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly for work and safety The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
Environment/Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in weather conditions that vary from sub-zero cold to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions and in terrain from flat urban to extreme mountainous rural areas, mostly at elevations 6,000 feet or more above sea level. About Yampa Valley Electric Association
Yampa Valley Electric Association is a cooperative located in Northwest Colorado. We have two locations: one in Steamboat Springs and one in Craig. Today, the Association serves nearly 26,300 meters over 2,840 miles of line. The association's service territory extends east to the continental divide, south to almost I-70, north into Wyoming about 10 miles, and west to within 25 miles of the Utah border. The 7,000 square mile service territory includes the communities of Baggs and Savery, Wyoming; Craig, Hayden, Steamboat Springs, and Yampa, Colorado; and surrounds, but does not include the town of Oak Creek, Colorado. The Association is run by a Board of Directors. The member/owners elect nine individuals from the general membership to represent them as Board of Directors. Three Directors are elected each year on a rotating basis. Yampa Valley Electric owns no generation facilities. It purchases power from the Western Area Power Administration (a federal power marketing agency) and Xcel Energy. YVEA is located in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Steamboat and the surrounding area is home to practically every type of outdoor recreation one can imagine depending on the season.
