Nestled in the heart of Colorado in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, SDCEA, a fast-growing electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Buena Vista, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Chief Financial Officer. The CFO is responsible for the daily financial and accounting functions of SDCEA. This is a salaried, staff-level position that is exempt from overtime.

The successful candidate will receive paid health and life benefits for self and family, including company contributions to a health savings account. SDCEA has a company-paid defined benefit retirement plan with a 1.7% benefit, cost of living adjustment and optional 100% death benefit. SDCEA also has a 401(K) defined contribution retirement plan and will match employee contributions at 100% for the first 4% contributed and at 50% for the next 2% contributed for a total match of 5%. The CFO is also eligible to participate in the company’s 457(b) plan.

The salary range for this position is $129,648 - $152,532. Benefits may also include longevity and years of service pay (contingent upon board approval).
Supervises and directs all finance department activities.
Prepares the annual budget with CEO and staff input and with approval from the Board Finance Committee and the full Board. Assists other department heads with annual work programs and departmental budgets.
Prepares other financial data such as forecasts, required tax forms and reports, etc. Develops loan applications, cost of service studies, and financial forecasts in conjunction with consultants. Works closely with banks and other financial and lending institutions including RUS, CoBank and CFC in order to maintain credit necessary for operations.
Plans, develops, and recommends overall departmental objectives and work programs to the CEO. Advises the CEO of conditions affecting the department and conditions within the department that will or may affect other departments or the general overall welfare of the Association. Obtains equipment necessary for the function of the finance department, in compliance with budget procedures.
Works closely and cooperates with auditors.
Attends and participates in monthly or special board meetings, the annual meeting, staff meetings, safety meetings, and all-employee meetings. May attend board committee meetings at the direction of the CEO.
Works closely with other co-ops and state, regional and national associations.
Provides supervision and coaching to direct reports regarding job performance. Conducts annual performance appraisals in a timely manner. May participate in hiring and termination decisions. Ensures that direct reports receive training and support to meet or improve their job performance. Keeps employees informed of work requirements, business conditions, company policies and other factors that impact their work performance and environment.
Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
A minimum of ten years of accounting experience is required. Two years of supervisory experience are desirable.
Computer literacy is required.
Maintains current knowledge of RUS account procedures and other financial and accounting procedures required by state and federal regulatory agencies including RUS, CFC, CoBank, PUC, IRS, etc.
Must be able to work productively independently or cooperatively with others in a team.
Must possess written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills at the level required to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position.
Must be able to operate office machines, computers and associated programs at the level required to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Employee may be required, on occasion, to drive a personal or company vehicle for company business.
Requires mobility between offices and office machinery.
Requires eyesight adequate to perform job functions.
Requires speech and hearing adequate to perform clear and understandable verbal communications in English by radio, phone and in person.
