Title: Apprentice Lineman Grade: 5 Position Code(s): 013-064 013-065 Department: Operations – Department 13 Status: Full Time Exemption Status: Non-exempt (hourly) Reports To: Construction Foreman Supervisory Responsibilities: None Work Location: Determined by Director of Operations Effective Date: March 22, 2021 Replaces (Effective Date): January 12, 2018 General Summary: Apprentice Lineman have completed and graduated from an approved apprentice lineman program or have related applicable experience. This position will be assisting crews with building near energized lines and/or assisting under direct supervision the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical utility and underground distribution system. Essential Job Functions: The following job functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. - Perform construction, maintenance, and repairs on the electrical distribution system under direct supervision.
- Assist in setting and framing poles and installing guys and anchors
- Help install circuit breakers, regulators and transformers.
- Operate chain saws, winches, use of hand tools, and other maintenance equipment.
- Cuts and assists in clearing of right-of-way.
- Support warehouse staff by picking up materials and supplies and loading trucks.
- Perform construction, maintenance, and repairs on the electrical distribution system under direct supervision.
- Serves on the on-call rotation within the district.
Job Requirements: Education and Experience: - Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Requires successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
- Requires successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
- Requires successful completion of a post-offer WorkSTEPS functional employment test.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: - Must have a valid Class A CDL driver’s license or within 60 days of hire.
- Must have completed an approved electrical lineman apprentice program or have related applicable experience.
Preferred: - Experience in the electrical industry as an apprentice lineman.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Ability to interact with members and other employees in a courteous and proper manner.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to successfully complete training in tree felling, traffic flagging, CPR/First Aid and other required training, as needed.
- Ability to perform manual labor with minimum supervision.
- Ability to perform highly repetitive and physical functions.
- Skills to utilize Microsoft Office and mobile device applications preferred.

Work Environment: - While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; and the risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
