Delaware Electric Cooperative, Inc. located in Greenwood, DE is accepting applications for an Accountant in our Finance & Accounting Department. The Accountant is responsible for ensuring that information, as it relates to accounting, financial, and statistical records, is accurately processed, delivered, and maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), approved Cooperative procedures, and established policies.
The Accountant will have the following responsibilities:
Assist with executing and recording daily cash transactions, including but not limited to, initiating or approving wire transfers, voiding checks, issuing stop payments, and clearing checks.
Reconcile all Cooperative bank accounts monthly.
Maintain plant and property records and perform work order audits, as requested by management.
Serve as the administrator of the Cooperative’s corporate credit card program, reconcile credit card purchases monthly and review supporting receipts.
Serve as the administrator of the Cooperative’s accounts payable software and manage payable workflows.
Ensure accounts payable invoices (checks and ACHs) are processed accurately and timely.
Monitor and reconcile miscellaneous accounts receivable and assist with the annual write-off process.
Prepare annual audit confirmations and other audit related documents and schedules, as requested.
Assist with inventory counts, as requested.
Assist with the preparation of short and long-range financial forecasts.
Assist the CFO and all departments in Capital and Expense budget preparation, review budget proposals, and prepare necessary supporting documentation.
Maintain budgets within budgeting software.
Create and maintain subsidiary records for tracking monthly power cost and reconcile the power cost adjustment account.
Develop NISC iVue system expertise and identify opportunities to automate solutions in all Accounting Business Solutions’ processes.
Collaborate closely with Information Technology and other Cooperative departments to develop actionable Key Performance Indicator reporting.
Prepare and maintain written institutional knowledge of the Cooperative’s accounting and financing procedures.
Work with other departments in solving problems and researching opportunities.
Produce reports on demand for analysis, management, and third parties.
Assist the Manager of Accounting, Controller, CFO, and senior staff on special projects and business planning, as assigned.

Candidate must possess an Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. A Master’s degree in Accounting with a CPA license is preferred. Must have excellent computer skills and a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in the areas relating to accounting or other related utility functions. About Delaware Electric Cooperative
DEC was formed in 1936 by a group of farmers in southern Delaware.
In 1936, very few Delaware families had electric service. Our country was beginning to emerge from the devastating effects of the Great Depression, and times were hard for everyone. During those difficult times, a consensus formed
among Delawareans that in order for rural residents to survive, electric service must be provided to farmers. Interested residents in Sussex County began exploring how the Rural Electrification Act could help their communities. A meeting was held in 1936 for the purpose of establishing the Delaware Rural Electric Association. As a result of this meeting and the efforts of the incorporators, the cooperative was organized and incorporated in 1936. The first lines were energized in March 1938 serving 223 members with 94 miles of line and one small substation in Greenwood.
Today, Delaware Electric Cooperative serves 105,000 meters with over 8,500 miles of lines and 27 substations throughout Kent and Sussex counties.
