General Summary The Transportation Supervisor position is responsible for supervision of the day-to-day activities of the Transportation Section (TRA). The goal is to safely improve quality and productivity with efficient and cost-effective utilization of resources. This includes scheduling and coordinating vehicle and equipment maintenance and replacement. Scheduling and supervising mechanics to ensure coverage of duties during the business day. Scheduling required annual inspections and ensuring that equipment is always in safe operating condition. Ensuring that all vehicles and equipment are compliant with Federal and State laws. Monitor and update maintenance software system to ensure accurate record keeping and cost tracking of parts and equipment. Provide support and advise Utility Services Manager on issues dealing with garage operations and vehicle maintenance/replacement. Support the development of fleet vehicle and associated power equipment specifications, purchasing, and retirement/disposal. Staying abreast of the current industry best practices and incorporating them as applicable into Dakota Electric’s processes. Responsibilities - Comply with established Dakota Electric Association safety and operating rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Be responsible for correcting any un-safe practices and/or hazards that are brought to your attention. Be responsible for co-workers under your guidance. Be visibly committed and actively involved in Dakota Electric’s safety programs, initiatives and performance.
- Maintain and coordinate all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair to ensure proper operation of their intended use at all times.
- Directs purchasing of repair parts and maintain adequate inventory in a cost-effective manner.
- Responsible maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws.
- Promote a positive image by maintaining good relations with Dakota Electric employees, government agencies, suppliers, and outside contractors.
- Maintains accurate records on vehicle repairs and ensures timely billings of outside work.
- Document, direct and dispose of all hazardous waste material generated by the transportation department in accordance with company, county, state and federal requirements.
- Promote cross training and onboarding development processes for new mechanics so they are educated and prepared to safely perform essential functions of the garage operations.
- Support and promote tailgate discussions, hazard recognition and mitigation, and communicate daily with transportation staff.

Supervision/Direction of Others Supervises: Lead Mechanics, Mechanics and Part-Time Mechanics Directs: Staff on vehicle and equipment purchases, maintenance and repairs Position Specifications Educational Experience This position requires an associate or 2-year technical degree in a transportation related field. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain, project management, or other business-related field is preferred. Leadership and supervision experience are also preferred. - Design and develop vehicle specifications that are “in-line” with industry standards and meet the needs of Dakota Electric employees.
- Required to possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license.

Working Conditions - Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Extra work hours are required when necessary or when work load requires.
- Attendance at out-of-town meetings and conferences beyond normal working hours is necessary.
- This position may be occasionally exposed to chemicals and fumes such as paint from a spray can and exhaust from moving machinery.
