DEPARTMENT OF OPERATIONAL SERVICES
METER TECHNICIAN I
To install, test, and maintain metering equipment in order to bill members accurately
To create a positive relationship between the Cooperative and its members
To install and maintain AMI equipment
Reports to: Metering Supervisor and/or Lead Meter Technician
Reads electric meters both manually and with AMI software as needed
Observes Cooperative facilities for possible hazards and is alert for possible “dead” meters and theft of electricity. Makes service orders or requests for meter investigation/maintenance as necessary
Attends and participates in appropriate safety training sessions
Communicate with Metering Supervisor relative to problems encountered and to any peculiarities during normal work procedures
Telephones members to remind them of locked gates and/or to put up dogs so sight access can be attained for routine maintenance/testing
Field test self-contained meters
Bench test meters
Removes and installs meters as directed
Accuracy testing of volt meters yearly
Deliver metering supplies to outer offices as needed
Schedules regular vehicle maintenance. Makes routine checks and keeps vehicle presentable
Assists Meter Technician II, Lead Meter Technician and/or Metering Supervisor as needed
Assists with office and warehouse maintenance as needed
Checks equipment and tools periodically. Responsible for maintaining proper supplies needed for the job
Works according to safety rules and policies adopted by Warren RECC, is responsible for own safety, and reports all accidents to supervisor
Complies with traffic laws, regulations, and safe practices while operating any company vehicle

POSITION: Meter Technician I
High school graduate or equivalent
Minimum of two years’ experience in meeting and dealing with the public and computer experience desired
Must have a basic understanding of the AMI system and knowledge of billing procedures. Must have knowledge of the Cooperative’s metering policies. Must have knowledge of first aid and successfully completed Multimedia Standard First Aid Course
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Must have ability to accurately read all types of electric meters, including demand, and key information into billing system. Should be able to follow instructions carefully, sometimes via telephone, and to work through technical or mechanical problems when they occur. Should be able to communicate easily with people and answer inquiries satisfactorily. Must learn basic AMI RF Communication System. Must have computer skills to access and input information accurately and efficiently. Should be able to read and interpret system maps. Must be flexible for assignments with the department. Must be able to change out electric meters. Must obtain forklift certification. Must have knowledge of bucket rescue.
Outside work in all types of weather and road conditions with considerable driving and walking. Will be in and out of truck many times per day. Fences to climb and bad dogs are not uncommon. May be asked to attend training courses related to work. Must be available for emergency work at night, on weekends, and holidays.
Must wear rubber gloves and eye/face protection when removing and setting meters.
