Northern Rio Arriba Electric Cooperative, (NORA) is a member-owned electric cooperative serving the North Central portion of New Mexico. The Cooperative has 13 employees serving approximately 3,025 meters and approximately 457 miles of distribution. NORA receives its wholesale power from the Tri-State G&T and is a member of the New Mexico Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NMRECA). The cooperative also is a 100% CFC Borrower and utilizes Consultant Engineers.
Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED, completed a four-year apprentice training course or equivalent experience in the field, and have a valid and current Commercial Driver’s License Class A.
Chama is a Village in Rio Arriba County New Mexico with a population of approximately 1,022. It is located in the beautiful Northern New Mexico Rocky Mountains about 7 miles south of the Colorado-New Mexico border. Chama is the western station of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, a steam-driven, narrow gaugeheritage railway which carries visitors to and from Osier and Antonito, Colorado, during the summer months. The climatic region is typified by large seasonal temperature difference, with short, cool-to-warm summers and long, cold winters. The area is a beautiful place for families to enjoy many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and is close to Wolf Creek and Taos Ski Valley, just to name a few. Larger communities are within a 111-mile radius, including Espanola NM (81 miles), Santa Fe NM (106 miles), Farmington NM (111 miles), Pagosa Springs CO (49 miles), and Alamosa CO (76 miles).

Performs construction and maintenance of lines, facilities and equipment. Provides adequate and reliable service to consumers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for construction, maintenance and operation of electric lines and equipment including vehicles. Provides adequate and reliable service to consumers.
Reports all unsafe conditions.
Is responsible for keeping abreast of all RUS line construction specifications.
Is accountable for all materials, supplies, equipment and vehicles that he uses or is assigned. Maintains same in good order and reports when maintenance or repairs are needed.
Is responsible for keeping abreast of all recommended first aid, safety rules and operating procedures.
Is responsible for proper training of apprentice linemen under his supervision.
Patrols distribution and transmission lines and inspects and reports any condition requiring attention.
Installs meters, services and related equipment.
Completes required reports and turns in to supervisor timely.
Checks and maintains OCR’s, OCB’s and transformers.
Respond to trouble calls when required.
Is available for on call duty when assigned and responses to emergency duty when required.
Periodic evaluation of apprentice linemen and other workers assigned.
May directly supervise 1 to 3 employees in the Line Construction and Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations’ policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities includes training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School or GED. Must have completed a four-year apprentice training course or equivalent experience in the field.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amount such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid and current Commercial Driver License Class A, Red Cross CPR and First Aid Card.
Must have completed a four-year apprentice linemen course.
