This position performs installation of hardware and software; hardware maintenance; and implements corrective and preventive maintenance programs on peripheral equipment, personal and portable computers, printers, and handheld devices within Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC). This position assists the Senior Hardware Maintenance Technicians in the implementation of an overall computer hardware maintenance program, and implements policies and procedures for directing hardware change control. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.
Qualifications: To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have knowledge of data communications concepts, including networks, modems, internet connectivity, and wireless networks. This is acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field, and one year of related computer hardware or support experience; or a two-year degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field, and three years of related computer hardware or support experience. Experience in repairing and maintaining personal and portable computers and hand held devices is required. The incumbent must have the ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; broad analytical skills; interpersonal and project management skills; and excellent teamwork skills. The ability to read detailed technical manuals and research driver needs for multiple computer vendors, as well as the ability to repair hardware, is required. The incumbent must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. A valid driver’s license is required. This position will travel approximately 10% of the time by car and cooperative/commercial plane.
Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands: This position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. Over 50% of the incumbent's workday is spent at a workbench. This position frequently works around chemicals; and occasionally around dirt/dust, extreme heat/cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, and electrical risks. Occasionally works in confined areas and at heights up to 25 feet. The incumbent must be able to operate a motor vehicle. The incumbent will be required to drive to remote plant sites or fly as a passenger in Cooperative/Commercial aircraft.
