The Board of Directors of Ouachita Electric Cooperative Corporation (OECC) is seeking a progressive and engaged leader to succeed the current General Manager who has announced his retirement. The new General Manager will take over on September 1, 2021. OECC has retained NRECA Executive Search to facilitate the search process.
OECC is a member-owned non-profit distribution cooperative providing electric services to portions of five southern Arkansas counties including Bradley, Calhoun, Dallas, Nevada, and Ouachita. OECC has its headquarters in Camden AR with a district office in Hampton AR. The cooperative serves approximately 9,300 meters, 7,000 members, has 39 dedicated full-time employees, and has around 1900 miles of power lines in its distribution territory. One half of OECC’s total load is industrial, providing electric services to the Highland Industrial Park, a privately owned 18,000-acre manufacturing and warehousing complex located in their service territory. OECC worked with Aerojet/Rocketdyne to build a 12-megawatt behind the meter solar array as well as ownership of a 5-megawatt battery system with General Dynamics. OECC is in a partnership with South Arkansas Telephone Company bringing high-speed fiber internet access to South Arkansas, as well.
Successful GM candidates will possess a commitment to cooperative values and the ability to lead this progressive cooperative utility. Key attributes that will set you apart as the next executive leader at OECC include the ability to manage risk, be forward thinking, have a high level of integrity, and possess stellar communication and relationship building skills. Expertise in achieving results, anticipating future challenges and opportunities are essential, while at the same time, possessing a high regard for electric power safety and safe workplace practices, is imperative.
A strong background working in an electric cooperative environment with 5-10 years of management is preferred. It is also preferred that successful candidates possess broad electric utility experience and knowledge in operations (electrical engineering), business administration, as well as accounting and finance. A bachelor’s degree in any of these areas or a related area is preferred.
The GM of OECC reports directly to and is accountable to a nine-member Board of Directors. The responsibilities of the GM are to administer the policies of the board and to carry out its directives.
OECC headquarters in Camden AR is situated in the Piney Woods of southern AR. Camden has a population of 12,000 residents and is located 90 miles south of Little Rock, 80 miles from Hot Springs and 100 miles from Shreveport LA. This beautifully wooded area offers the peace and tranquility of rural living with moderate commutes to areas offering expanded needs and entertainment. Fishing, hunting, camping, lake activities, hiking and biking trails and nature observation areas are a few of the attractions which set this area and its caring community apart as one of the most scenic and serene places to live, work and play.
