Under direction, maintains railroad in a safe condition, ensures timely delivery of limestone and maintains an adequate supply of limestone.
Industrial environment with ability to exert a moderate degree of physical effort including climbing, balancing, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking and the assisted lifting of objects and materials up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in confined spaces and high areas with mechanical hazards. Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and depths. Exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, humidity, temperature and noise extremes, wetness, strong or toxic agents or chemical, machinery and vibrations. Specific vision abilities include close vision and distance vision with varied lighting. May use personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
Supervises and assists Train/Limestone Operator, Technician and associated contractors.
Prepares and reviews bid specification documents.
Maintains communications with Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) and limestone supply contractor in the coordination of loading and delivering limestone shipments and schedules extra trains when necessary.
Reconciles limestone quantities from quarry to determine payments.
Oversees certification process of quarry track scale and contractor maintenance of plant’s belt scale.
Ensures that functions are performed in compliance with circulars and letters from the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Rules of Freight Car Interchange Field Manual.
Oversees locomotive, railcars and railroad track inspections, maintenance and repairs.
Assures safety of locomotive, railcars and track through preventive maintenance programs.
Bids out spraying of right-of-way for vegetation control.
Prepares reports and transmits data to AAR, UPRR and limestone supply contractor.
Operates, inspects and writes maintenance requests for limestone conveyors.
Operates locomotive, dumps railcars and performs other duties of subordinate personnel in their absence.
Oversees maintenance of safe and clean working environment.
May be required to work on call, after hours, weekends and holidays.
Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
Minimum of 7 years experience in operations and maintenance with supervisory and railroad system experience
