Boone Electric Cooperative in Columbia, Missouri currently has an opening for an Electrical System Engineer in the Engineering Department. This position will work under the direction of and report to the Manager of Engineering. This salaried, exempt position will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Design, implements and maintains cellular and private data communication networks and required equipment to support various systems such as SCADA, mobile workforce, AMI and others as needed.
Develops procedures for the safe operation of all electrical distribution equipment including reclosers, regulators, capacitor banks, etc.
Develops construction work plan to help improve system reliability, facilitate load growth, and implement system improvements and coordinates that plan with Operations, Finance and GIS departments.
Maintains all data and models for distribution system analysis software, power quality, AMI and OMS systems.
Performs work order inspections and notes changes and serves as the official PE designee for the Cooperative.
Manages technical projects and oversees power quality projects to find solutions to abnormal system performance issues or events.
Assists with the design of new power lines by performing required calculations and developing materials list using RUS specifications.
Oversees the technical aspect and inspection of the Cooperative’s net metering program in coordination with the Member Services Department.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities required for this position:
A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university is required. Candidates should be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Missouri or be able to acquire registration within a reasonable amount of time.
Five years’ experience with an electric distribution utility is preferred, but is not required. The experience should include plan and design of distribution lines and electrical substations.
Must possess ability to handle multiple projects with varying deadlines, strong project management skills and a high degree of self-motivation is required.
Must possess good verbal and written communications skills and knowledge of standard engineering computer software.
Must possess knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), and OSHA and EPA regulations.
Should become familiar with RUS material specifications within a reasonable time. Past rural electric cooperative experience is preferred, but not required.
Must possess or obtain a valid Missouri Class E chauffer’s license within a reasonable time span.
Position requires inside office work and outside fieldwork in all weather conditions across varying types of terrain and in adverse weather conditions. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds with a reasonable accommodation is also required. Some overnight travel may be required for education and training purposes.
