A successful Groundman/Apprentice Lineman is a strong team-player that is willing and able to take direction from peers and superiors. This position requires a hard-working person, who can assist a crew to insure proper construction, service and maintenance of electrical distribution services. Members and safety are a top priority for this position; on-the-job training will be provided. This is an on-call position where one must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays, as well as, handle high stress situations.
Typical work schedule is four (4) ten-hour days per week
Must be available to work stand-by (on-call) and during emergency conditions after regular workweek hours.
Majority of work takes place outdoors with exposure to adverse conditions such as extreme heat or cold, high winds, and stormy weather.

This is not a supervisory position
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – must have the ability to understand and follow Cooperative maps, Cooperative Safety Manual, work orders, staking sheets, and any type of Cooperative forms related to work being performed. Must have the ability to learn cooperative’s service area and distribution system. Must have the ability to learn and understand the installation of transformers, wiring of transformer banks, regulators, capacitors, and other special equipment.
Personal Characteristics – must be a team player and represent the Cooperative in a positive manner. Must be able to take and follow direction from peers and superiors. Must possess high integrity in maintaining safe work practices. This is a very dangerous position – extreme vigilance is required.
Physical Characteristics/Working Conditions – must have the physical strength and stamina to perform duties required, which include learning to climb poles, lifting heavy objects and assisting in construction of lines. Must be able to work under adverse conditions such as extreme heat or cold, high winds, stormy conditions, and must be available to work stand-by after completion of trial period, as well as during emergency conditions after regular workweek hours. There is a risk of cuts, bruises, sprains, fractures, loss of body members, burns or electrical shock that could result in injury or death.

Must be able to meet or exceed the requirements outlined in the job description below.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
This is a dangerous occupation – extreme vigilance is required.
Must possess a current Texas driver’s license and maintain and insurable driving record.
Must have a least a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit to apply.
Must be able to complete and pass CPR and First Aid training.
Must have physical stamina to climb poles, lift heavy objects and work in extreme weather conditions.
