The Board of Directors for Jump River Electric Cooperative (JREC) is seeking to fill the position of General Manager/CEO. JREC is a rural electric cooperative located in northwest Wisconsin. It is composed of 25 employees serving 8,500 members across a service area including 1,780 miles of line. The headquarters is located in Ladysmith, with satellite offices in Hayward and Hannibal, Wisconsin.
The Board seeks candidates with demonstrated competence in the management and leadership of an electric cooperative. In addition to strong people skills, the well-qualified candidate will have “hands-on” operations experience in power supply, rates, and engineering; and will have achieved proficiency in the areas of finance and accounting, human resources, safety, and customer service. The ability to work effectively with the JREC Board is very important, exemplified by a collaborative, team-oriented approach to governance, and the ability to bring initiative, innovation, and strategic vision to the General Manager/CEO role. The incumbent is expected to present a positive organizational image of JREC in his/her interactions with the community, other cooperatives, and the public in general.
A summary of candidate qualifications is as follows:
Five or more years’ experience in electric management is required.
A Bachelor’s Degree, or college-level coursework, in business administration, accounting and finance, quality and safety, or human resources is desirable.
Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be at ease with presentations to the public.
Demonstrated success in managing a large diverse group of people is preferred.
A working understanding of budgets, employment law, technology, safety, quality, customer service, and human resources (including union negotiations) is preferred.
Experience in working with the NISC and RESAP software systems is desirable.
Industry knowledge and leadership with a focus on legislative issues is desirable.
Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating an organizational strategic plan is desirable.
Must conduct himself/herself with the highest levels of ethics and integrity.
The applicant is expected to reside within the JREC service area and be a JREC member within 6 months.
The General Manager/CEO is responsible for the overall management of the JREC. This position reports directly to a nine-member Board of Directors, which is elected by the membership. The incumbent is accountable to the Board and is responsible for administering policies and directives as established by the Board. The position requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and constituencies, through a collaborative problem-solving approach, that achieves organizational objectives on a timely basis.
