Washington Electric Cooperative (WEC), a progressive rural utility, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of General Manager/CEO to succeed the current General Manager who will leave her position in January 2022.
WEC was founded in 1939 to bring electricity to rural Vermont communities in 41 towns in central Vermont. General Summary of Job Responsibilities:
The General Manager/CEO shall perform the leadership and management functions of planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and running the activities of WEC in accordance with policies, long-range plans, and business objectives delegated by the nine-member WEC Board of Directors.
Key attributes of the successful candidate include
Applicants should have at least 5 years of management experience, preferably with a working background in an electric utility environment. Desirable skills include electric utility operation, engineering, power supply, business administration, utility law, and/or accounting and budgets. A bachelor’s degree in one of these areas or a related area is preferred.
Excellent communication skills including speaking, writing, and listening. We are seeking a candidate that can manage and inspire employees, work productively with an engaged Board, build productive relationships with legislators and regulators, and interact constructively with diverse member/owners and other regional stakeholders.
Future-oriented thinking and the ability to collaborate with employees and Board to develop strategies that position WEC for success in the evolving utility landscape in Vermont.
