Location: Merom Generating Station, near Sullivan, IN
Hoosier Energy is a generation and transmission cooperative providing wholesale electric power and services to 18-member distribution cooperatives in central and southern Indiana and southeastern Illinois. Based in Bloomington, Indiana, Hoosier Energy operates coal, natural gas and renewable energy power plants and delivers power through a 1,700-mile transmission network.
This position is a temporary position with a duration until approximately May 2023 at 40 hours per week and the incumbent for this role will be employed through a local staffing agency.
Provide needed support to the Safety Department and participate in the development and implementation of the department’s core activities resulting in maximized organizational performance and efficiencies. Accountable to assure that a safe and healthy working environment is maintained within the generation facilities through education of all employees and inspection of plant facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the development and implementation of plant and corporate safety policies and procedures to ensure employee, visitor, vendor, and contractor safe work practices
Performs required plant inspections
Assists Safety Specialist Generation in proper maintenance and inspection of Emergency Response Team equipment and supplies
Assists with the implementation of plant housekeeping policies and procedures to ensure plant facilities are maintained in a safe manner
Monitors the activities of all required Merom labor service personnel
Ensures adequate inventory of plant personal protective equipment, first aid supplies and plant safety equipment
Monitors plant safety work orders and ensures completion of work activity as directed by Team Leader, Generation Safety & Security
Assists Process Safety Management Specialist with Process Safety Management (PSM) responsibilities including identifying and resolving PSM action items, developing an all-inclusive PSM Equipment List and aids in maintaining Hoosier Energy’s Process Safety Management Program
Assists the Process Safety Management Specialist in Hazard Communication responsibilities including audits and chemical inventories, Chemical Procurement and updating Hoosier Energy’s Hazard Communication Program to ensure compliance with the newly adopted Global Harmonization System (GHS)
Working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Construction and/or a Chemical Engineering related field, with fundamental knowledge of OSHA regulations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of all OSHA rules and regulations as they pertain to the generating facilities
Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and telephone
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel and Maximo along with various other software applications
Ability to organize and maintain filing systems
Ability to troubleshoot and maintain preventive maintenance on the following, including but not limited to: electrical gloves, air monitors, ER team inventory, fire extinguishers, 10-minute air packs, SCBA’s, Oxygen kits, AEDs, Ear Plug dispensers, maintain proper updating of plant muster sheets.
Ability to complete ordering of supplies as directed by departmental reports
Ability to become proficient in and conduct contractor safety orientation as needed
