Position Summary: As the Control Room Operator (CRO), responsibility will be to provide direct support in the operation and maintenance of a 1,240 MW 4X2 natural gas fired combined cycle electric generating plant. The CRO operates and directs the operation of all plant equipment to include: combustion turbines (CT), heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), steam turbines (ST), Turbine Inlet Cooling (TIC), zero liquid discharge water treatment plants, gas pipelines and compressors, raw water pipelines and pump stations, and balance-of-plant equipment to meet power requirements of the Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE). Directs the Operations Technician I/II and Water Plant Technician III in the operation and maintenance of plant equipment and system. Maintains system and equipment logs and keeps records of operation as required. Prepares and directs the preparation of abnormal operation reports and equipment failures. Prepares and directs the preparation of detailed information for plant reliability. Works a rotating shift schedule.
Tasks. Duties and Responsibilities: Safely and efficiently operates and monitors plant systems and equipment from a DCS within a Control Room setting, as required, to meet dispatch schedule. Monitors the operation of the water treatment plant equipment to ensure safety, reliability and economy. Monitors readings of temperatures, pressures, and flows over the entire plant and checks for proper operation of equipment. Determines control chemical quantities for prevention of scaling and corrosion. Recommend blow down rates for additional protection. Responsible for issuing Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space, Hot Work and other permits in accordance with applicable procedures. Operates plant, as required, to meet the loading (including cycling of all or part of the facility) and voltage needs of system dispatch. Assists the Shift Supervisor as required. Performs switching operations as directed. Performs assigned preventive and corrective maintenance duties. Identifies all known equipment deficiencies using the Plant Computerized Maintenance Management System. Ensures cleanliness of plant facilities. Must also qualify in all lower positions to include Auxiliary Operator and Water Plant Operator. Operates the plant in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent certificate. Minimum of 5 years of power plant operations experience or currently qualified in both Water Plant Operations and Auxiliary Operations and the Jack County Generation Facility. Combined cycle plant experience operating GE 7FA gas turbine and D-11 steam turbines preferred.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: Requires working inside and outside of an electric generating plant in varying weather conditions and temperature and humidity extremes. Requires working in areas of constant high noise and vibration levels. Requires lifting, pushing pulling or carrying of weights equal to 50 pounds or more. Requires climbing ladders and stairs. Requires wearing personal safety equipment. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted. Requires vision within normal range, corrective lenses are permitted.
