Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC) is a member-owned electric cooperative, serving an area of approximately 2,500 square miles in Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Giles, Grundy, Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Marion, Marshall, Maury, Moore, Rutherford, and Williamson counties in southern middle Tennessee. DREMC has partnered with NRECA Executive Search in its search for a Vice President (VP) of Financial Services due to a recent retirement. Reporting directly to the CEO,the VP of Financial Services will be a phenomenal communicator that consistently displays an incredible willingness to listen for intent and watch for the best questions to ask. He or she will be an experienced collaborative leader that displays a strong degree of analytical prowess, while consistently demonstrating a professional humility and a high drive for action that inspires positive energy to others. Additional experience in other areas of a utility is strongly preferred.
The Vice President (VP) of Financial Services leads, directs and is accountable for all accounting, finance, and billing activities to ensure DREMC accurately completes all internal and external required filings, reports, and analysis in a timely manner with a high degree of proficiency. A vital member of the Executive Leadership Team, this position is a strategic partner to both the CEO and the Management team.
Currently leading the 10 person financial services department, the VP of Financial Services is responsible for the effective communication, implementation, and monitoring of the corporate budget of several hundred million dollars annually. The position also manages the division budget for software, training and related items and is responsible for the effective execution of all Cooperative strategies involving rates, debt, and associated cash requirements to fulfill the Cooperative’s mission of providing safe and reliable power at the lowest possible cost.
As the VP of Financial Services is the key point of contact for external contractors, lenders and regulators, strong candidates will have solid relationship building and leadership skills.
Candidates will set themselves apart from others if they are familiar with Marty Clarke’s Leadership Principles of Leadership Landmines, 8 Management Catastrophes and How to Avoid Them. An appreciation and understanding of cooperative values are also key differentiators.

Ability and want to train the accounting & billing teams to ensure competence, growth and development.
Ensures accuracy and timeliness of all billing and accounting deliverables for both internal and external DREMC financial functions.
Oversees all processes related to a completely successful Cooperative annual audit and related functions.
Ensures all DREMC lender requirements and communication needs are met in a professional manner.
Satisfies all state and federal requirements and filings as appropriate.
Studies and applies Duck River Electric Membership Corporation policies, procedures, By-Laws, rules and applicable regulations as imposed by state or federal regulators and lenders.
Conducts accurate and consistent employee performance evaluations while maintaining a productive and professional atmosphere by coaching, training and motivating employees.
Maintain confidential employee and member information in conformance to good industry practices.
Organize and ensure efficient electronic transformation from multiple paper processes that support potential remote work of key employees for short periods of time without team disruptions or delays.
Support the CEO and management team efforts to effectively communicate to the board of directors as needed.
Undergraduate degree in accounting is required.
MBA and/or CPA and additional industry certifications are preferred.
Minimum six (6) years of utility accounting experience is required. At least three (3) years of accounting supervisory experience is required.
Strong candidates will have utility experience in two or more of the following areas: purchasing, warehouse, information technology, member services, human resources or other related utility functions.
Experience with TVA as a wholesale provider is preferred.
A well-rounded understanding of the electric utility industry is desired.
