We are currently looking for a Safety Manager who will be responsible for leading, managing and modifying, as needed, all company safety, initiatives and programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state and NOVEC safety regulations, guidelines and reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible for the management, development, modification and maintenance of the NOVEC worker safety program that strives for an accident free work environment, provides comprehensive training for workers, always remains compliant with mandated regulatory requirements and NOVEC safety programs and maintain accurate and complete recordkeeping of all safety related activities including worker training, accident investigations, periodic safety metrics reports and submission to government entities.
Leads in the development of strategies and tactics to continuously enhance NOVEC's safety programs to reduce risk, to raise safety awareness and to improve worker safety.
Serves as the subject matter expert in the areas of safety and health and provides expert opinions on matters relating to state and federal mandated regulations and requirements particularly on matters pertaining to OSHA, NESC, DOT, NPGA, NFPA etc.
Represents NOVEC as a subject matter expert on matters relating to safety with government entities having jurisdiction over regulatory compliance for safety. Develops analyses, reports and makes submission to government entities and authorities having jurisdiction in matters of relating to safety. Conducts safety assessments and audits to determine compliance with mandated requirements and to identify improvements and enhancements to current safety practices and programs.
Develops and recommends to NOVEC executive management safety goals and new safety initiatives and programs.
Manages all updates and modifications to the existing NOVEC Safety Manual, and all safety guidelines, procedures and training materials.
Creates, maintains, and submits monthly safety reports to NOVEC management.
Develops and maintains tools to track and analyze safety training related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Manages the Safety team and all occupational health and safety consultants that are responsible to ensure safety goals and objectives are aligned with NOVEC.
Maintains a close relationship with all levels of management to implement and maintain an effective and constructive Safety Program, including a visible presence at work locations.
Utilizes all available resources to accomplish desired end results. This includes establishing and implementing safety committees, recognition/reward programs, etc.
Works with the Safety team to plan, develop, implement, and administer accident prevention and job training.
Handles and maintains integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive human resource and management information.
Applies learnings from accident and near-miss investigations to develop training material, work method improvements, human performance improvements and effective safety policy.
Applies formal accident investigation processes (Root Cause Analysis) to determine personal and organizational causes to accidents and injuries. Able to facilitate discussions related to detailed or complex work events.
Manages the oversight of jobsite work/equipment inspections.
Identifies and anticipates safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying operational and occupational conditions; rendering opinion on new equipment and procedures; investigating violations; and recommending preventative programs.
Contributes to the overall strategic plan.
Works continually towards self-development to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; and participating in professional societies.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Business or other related field with five to seven years of related experience and/or training is highly preferred. Candidates with an Associate's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of ten years field experience with an electric utility would also be considered. Preferred certifications include: Certified Utility Safety Administrator, Advanced Safety Certificate, and First Aid/CPR.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated knowledge of general financial principles, budget management and mathematical skills.
Demonstrated proficiency with general computer operation and Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and meet rapidly changing regulatory requirements and business needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational direction.
Demonstrated ability to plan over short and long-term time periods.
Demonstrated ability to manage and conduct compliance audits and accident investigations.
Demonstrated ability to use available resources to deliver training to members of the organization.
