We are currently looking for a Supervisor, Distribution Engineering who will supervise and manage a staff of technical designers responsible for the development of engineering designs, design cost estimates, and communication of technical and design information to NOVEC customers, government entities and third party builders and developers. This position will manage and take the lead role in the professional and technical development of department designers and technical staff. This position will also manage and evaluate the performance of assigned technical staff and proactively initiate measures to correct instances of work product not meeting established quality standards. The selected person will develop and communicate solutions to inquiries from customers, government staff and officials, builders and developers and internal company personnel. This role will also represent and articulate the NOVEC position on matters related to electric distribution design and electric infrastructure at public hearings, community gatherings and before regulatory bodies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manage a staff of technical designers to develop engineering designs, design cost estimates, and manages the communication of information to internal company personnel, external customers, government entities, regulatory bodies and builders & developers.
Manage technical designers in the preparation of engineering designs, cost estimates and schedules and assigns projects and work to technical designers.
Manage the development of the technical staff through mentoring, instructing of technical engineering principles and governing electrical and safety codes. Provide instruction and teach the technical designers in areas of company policies, safety, terms and conditions under which NOVEC provides electric service. Evaluate the performance and manage the development of technical staff.
Provide customers, developers, government bodies and other utilities with accurate and timely information with regards to electric design services and explain the regulatory policies and NOVEC guidelines for providing electric service.
Manage the development of distribution equipment specifications and develop work methods for field personnel responsible for the installation and maintenance of distribution equipment and systems. Collaborate with the Director, System Engineering to develop, evaluate, and implement new policies and procedures which reflect best engineering practices.
Represent NOVEC in matters relating to electric distribution design on industry work groups and industry committees.
Manage the development of electric distribution designs and projects in accordance agreements and contracts in place with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), with all joint use attaching entities, with all local jurisdictions and with all large customer interconnections.
Manage the development of distribution equipment specifications and development of work methods for field personnel responsible for the installation and maintenance of distribution equipment and systems
Collaborate with other department managers and supervisors on company-wide initiatives.
Perform the duties and fulfill the responsibilities of department manager when the Director is unavailable.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is preferred with a minimum of four years of utility related experience in engineering design, cost estimating and work planning for electric systems. A minimum of seven to ten years of utility related experience in engineering design, cost estimating and work planning will also be considered for this position.
Prior experience supervising engineers, engineering technicians, technical designers, and/or other utility technical personnel is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage, mentor and coach people and manage electric infrastructure projects.
Demonstrated ability to use engineering design software and automated work management systems.
Superior written and verbal communication skills.
Possess the ability to use analytic and/or engineering software.
