The Gila River Indian Community Utility Authority (GRICUA) Board of Directors has partnered with NRECA Executive Search in seeking their next GM to lead the utility after the upcoming retirement of its long-serving General Manager. This individual will be an experienced leader with top-notch interpersonal skills and strong external leadership ability.
GRICUA was formed in 1998 to serve the Gila River Indian Community’s (Community) Wild Horse Pass Casino. In 2008, the Gila River Indian Community Council approved the 638 Contract for GRICUA to assume responsibility for maintaining & operating the San Carlos Irrigation Project (SCIP) electric system on the Gila River Indian Community Reservation. In 2018, all SCIP residential and commercial customers were transferred to GRICUA. GRICUA has a peak demand of 60 MW’s and operates an electric system that consists of 10 substations, 95 miles of 69 kV transmission lines and 425 miles of 12 kV distribution lines. GRICUA purchases wholesale power from various generating sources and in turn delivers it to over 3400 customers. The utility has a workforce of 33 full-time employees.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience and expertise:
A 4-year degree is required with a preference to candidates with an advanced degree or completion of NRECA’s Management Internship Program (MIP).
At least 6-8 years of management experience is required, with at least 5 years of overall utility experience in a cooperative or public power organization is preferred.
Previous GM/CEO experience will set you apart from other applicants
Engineering experience is required.
An understanding of and experience in Accounting & Finance and Business Administration are preferred
A strong background in working in an electric distribution environment, with a focus on safety, infrastructure development and power supply.
Experience working with Native American communities is desired.
GRICUA is an entity of the Gila River Indian Community (Community) and serves load within the Gila River Indian Community Reservation (Reservation). The Reservation is located approximately 7 miles south of downtown Phoenix. The Reservation encompasses approximately 373,000 acres of which GRICUA’s service area is approximately 255,000 acres located in Districts 1 -5 and a portion of District 6. The Reservation is bordered by Phoenix and Chandler.
