The Business Development Manager’s (BDM) primary role is to partner with member/customers to help them succeed at solving business problems or business opportunities and to be seen by members/customers as a trusted advisor. BDMs hunt for opportunities to serve customers, helping them select and leverage the SEDC enterprise solutions, resulting in expanded relationships and the generation of sales/revenue from new and existing member/customers. Business Development Managers work as members of a Business Development and Relationship Management team. They work and collaborate with Key Account Managers, Territory Managers, Product Managers, Marketing, and Sales Operations to bring compelling value propositions to customers and contribute to the development and growth of long-term member/customer relationships. BDMs represent and are knowledgeable about all SEDC family of companies’ business solutions while specializing with deep expertise in one or two business solutions. The BDM embodies an “I succeed by helping you succeed” orientation with customers and teammates. Integrate concept of industry expertise and knowledge of m/c business. BDM’s generate leads, pursue opportunities, manage the sales process, close deals and generate revenue.
Focused on the new accounts and new cross-sell opportunities within existing accounts.
Understand the utility industry, regional business influences, individual utility goals and KPIs uncovered through research to be highly effective in outreach campaigns.
Expected to develop and implement territory and account plans and a strategy to grow relationships and revenue.
Business Developers (hunters) report directly (solid line) to the Business Development Director.
Sells all enterprise solutions (SEDC, Arista, and Futura)
Business Developers have clear sales targets/goals and are expected to meet or exceed these goals.
Business Developers are enterprise solution salespeople and are expected to develop overall business use cases and high-level technical knowledge of all solutions, leveraging product owners who “major” in the solution to provide in-depth knowledge in one or more product lines.
Business Developers have a dotted reporting line to Product Owners who will provide education and guidance in application and promotion of the product major.
Maintain a collaborative working relationship across SEDC family of companies.
Effectively grow, manage, and forecast the pipeline accurately and report to senior management the expectation of revenue growth as a commitment that can be relied upon.
Reports issues and/or new functionality acting as liaison to executives at the utility to executive sponsors as SEDC.
Expected to establish the ROI around the proposed solutions and determine/uncover additional business issues that can be resolved by expanding the use of the SEDC platform.
Leverages and collaborates with the Business Development Operations and Relationship Management staff.
Communicate (not provide) commitments from support or product owners.
Expected to share innovative ideas based upon the business needs uncovered during discovery.
Understands and communicates the value proposition of the proposed solution mapping the use of the solution to an ROI.
Represents the company at conferences, meetings, and networking events.
Travel to customer sites when necessary for onsite audits, special projects, or account reviews.
Responsible for integrating and/or maintaining customer information and contacts across several platforms, including third party software and internal systems.
Bachelors Degree with 5-6 years of Business Development experience.
