LOCATION: Merom Generating Station, near Sullivan, IN
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs assigned projects and routine procedures or tasks involving the operation, inspection, checking and status-reporting of assigned equipment or systems, for the purpose of contributing to the overall safety, continuity and efficient operation of the power plant. Participates in on-the-job training or other educational opportunities in order to achieve a level of independent expertise conceding abnormal/emergency conditions and higher state-of-the-art technologies associated with the operation of Hoosier Energy’s generation facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews, at the start of each assigned shift, the operating reports of the previous shift concerning assigned plant equipment and to verify such information by personal inspection. Completes the prescribed written reports with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
Performs the necessary steps and procedures concerning the operation, lubrication, inspection, checking and status-recording of all plant ash removal equipment.
Records plant readings on auxiliary systems and reviews with Control Operator and Shift Supervisor.
Participates in on-the-job training and satisfactorily completes the operator training course.
Works a rotating “swing” shift schedule and reports for work in a timely and dependable fashion.
Provides necessary on-the-job guidance of personnel of lesser experience to upgrade their operational skills.
Maintains appropriate channels of communication and cooperation with all power plant personnel, and reports any abnormal or potentially dangerous conditions to the appropriate supervisor(s) in a responsible and timely fashion.
Performs housekeeping in and around assigned work areas.
Responsible for the proper utilization, maintenance and security of assigned tools, equipment and work areas.
Suggests to the control operator or the shift supervisor any recommendations about practices, procedures, system requirements or improvements to facilitate maintenance schedules, short or long-range plans, and other work efficiencies or cost improvements.
Acts in an exemplary manner in order to maintain and promote safe practices and procedures; participates in scheduled safety meetings and first-aid classes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
Minimum of High School or GED
Experience:
Demonstrate potential, either through work experience or education, success in electrical, mechanical and/or control operational occupations
Skills and Abilities:
Broad mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
Must be capable of ascending and descending vertical ladders in a timely manner and perform work on platforms as assigned
Must be able to work and/or stand and perform work non-stop for several hours at a time
Must possess legible handwriting
Must qualify for and maintain the appropriate driver’s license in order to operate vehicles specified by the Company
WORKING CONDITIONS
Power plant environment, rotating shift work schedule and may require extended hours
