East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC), a not-for-profit generation and transmission (G&T) electric utility with headquarters in Winchester, Kentucky, is currently seeking the position of General Counsel to join its Senior Executive Staff.

The General Counsel reports to the EKPC Board of Directors and President/CEO. His/her responsibilities will include providing overall legal advice, direction, assessment and assistance to the EKPC Board of Directors, EKPC President and CEO. Providing legal assistance to EKPC Officers, Senior VPs, VPs and all business units within the Cooperative in all legal matters affecting EKPC. The position renders legal opinions on proposed Board actions, parliamentary procedures and other matters as assigned while maintaining a reporting relationship to the EKPC Board and President and CEO. The position ensures maximum protection of the legal rights of the cooperative and that the Cooperative’s operations are within the limits prescribed by law. The General Counsel directs, manages and supervises the Deputy General Counsel, Corporate Counsel, Director of Internal Audit and Executive Assistant and all outside legal counsel and legal matters.
The successful candidate must:
hold a Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of related experience within the utility industry
be a member in good standing of the Kentucky Bar Association
possess strong working knowledge of state and federal statutes and regulations governing cooperatives, corporation law, transactional law, commercial law, administrative law and trial and appellate procedures
familiarity with labor law, environmental law, real estate law, including, but not limited to eminent domain proceedings and, generally, legal issues pervasive in the electric utility industry, including statutes and regulations governing equal opportunity employment
