NEC is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Engineering Aide at the headquarters office in Lakeside, Arizona. NEC is situated within the White Mountains of Arizona, 180 miles NE of Phoenix. It is a place of beautiful scenery and mild climate, with a small community atmosphere where you know your neighbors. The area abounds in opportunities for hiking, hunting, fishing and other outdoors sports.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will produce and maintain accurate and up-to-date engineering records to assist the GIS Specialist and Survey & Mapping Specialist to produce and maintain an accurate, up-to-date enterprise GIS system, including engineering maps, mapping interfaces and facilities records using automated methods and assist the engineering technicians with easements and permits, and to assist them in the field to stake new and relocated facilities.
Duties Performed Regularly
Create, update and maintain drawings, maps and records as required in Engineering and other departments by use of Auto Cad, GIS mapping and manual drawings when necessary.
Assist Engineering Technicians and Survey & Mapping Specialist with preparing, submitting and maintaining necessary easement documents, permits, agreements, maps and drawings for the Forest Service, BIA, BLM, State, Counties, Cities and others as required.
Update and Maintain Drawings including but not limited to: Electrical - System and Substation (One-line, Control wiring, Schematics, etc.), Conduit, Phasing, Plan and Profile, etc.
Follow established drafting standards, techniques and file structures to maintain professional appearance of drawings and organization of files.
Maintain drawing and surveying supplies for the department.
Assist the GIS Specialist in data entry and basic editing functions of the GIS mapping systems.
Work with Engineering Technicians in the field serving as the instrument operator when using survey equipment.
Operate and maintain the Engineering department plotters and reproduction machine.
Operate laptop PC for field mapping GIS coordinates of existing and new electric facility locations.
Make mathematical calculations necessary for completing surveys.
Maintain a current knowledge of applicable parts of the Cooperative’s policies, regulations, rates, practices, and procedures and use this information as required.
Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Formal Education
Associate Degree in Applied Science or Computer Aided Drafting and 1 year of computer drafting experience or;
High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years working knowledge in related discipline.
Working knowledge of basic mathematics and trigonometry is required.
Previous Job Experience
Possess the demonstrated ability to perform standard functions in Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Database programs.
Proficient working knowledge of AutoCAD, or other CAD software,
Basic knowledge of ESRI software including ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and other Enterprise software is preferred.
Special Skills
Have basic skills and knowledge of computer drafting techniques and plotting equipment.
Have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Be able to develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of Cooperative policies, programs, and practices.
Have a proven organizational ability
Have a proven work experience in multitasking and be detail oriented.
Have the proven ability to work independently of others and maintain a high level of productivity.
Have a willingness and ability to work with other NEC employees and departments and serve on various committees, if appointed to such.
Be physically able to perform job functions, as well as field investigations to verify mapping data.
Be able to work away from the reporting location multi-days and nights and attend seminars and special training classes as directed by supervisor.
Required to have and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license within 30 calendar days of employment.
HOURS OF OPERATION: - 4/10s - (Monday through Thursday). The normal office hours are 7 AM to 6 PM.
