SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
To provide specialized technical skills necessary for the field construction, and maintenance responsibilities for our Substation Sectionalizing Automation Controls, Supervisory Control and Data System (SCADA) and distribution automation systems. To have thorough knowledge necessary to implement the modeling update process in field inspection, so as to provide maximum service to the membership of the Cooperative. To assist the Engineering Staff in the Construction activities required in substation automation maintenance, troubleshooting and control testing.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to: Assistant Vice-President of Engineering
- Directs: None
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides monthly updated system loading information to engineering leadership for work orders activity for phase balancing, circuit loading and daily outage analysis, making recommendations for system changes daily.
- Provides technical assistance to the Engineering and Operations groups for monthly substation inspection and substation controls inspection by completing monthly reports analysis and providing data collection and information for system studies.
- Assists the engineering department in maintenance operation and installation activities for our CVR, Distribution Automation, fault footprint and SCADA system, which can be used in the Operations and Engineering of the Cooperative.
- Assists the Engineering department in maintenance and installation activities for our Substation control relaying system, which can be used in the Operations and Engineering of the Cooperative.
- Provides assistance to Operations and Engineering with the education process of all employees in the use of the communication and control system and distribution automation.
- Assists the Electrical Engineer with the computer based system models and system planning systems for all up-dates, changes and additions made to the utility system and to assist with interface work planning with distribution systems.
- Operates and assists with the planning and implementation of the computer based capacitor control systems for all up-dates, changes and additions made to the utility system and to assist with interface with distribution systems.
- Assists with the field inspection of voltage complaint analysis form voltage recordings after initial customer complaints in determining the best practices to maintain proper system voltages of the Cooperative's distribution system.
- Should be familiar with Service Rules and Regulations to assist the Electrical Engineer with system construction costing schedules to provide information to Engineering staff.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in phasing underground systems pricing and approving layouts.
- Assist with radio, cell modem, fiber communication systems operation and troubleshooting.
- Assist the Engineer Staff with daily activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- An Associate Degree in Applied Science or two years college level courses in a technical field with three to four years' prior experience necessary.
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred
- Must be able to maintain a Driver's License.
- Displays an independent and decisive attitude, being alert and receptive to needed change, while exercising flexibility and control.
- Ability to operate computers.
- Ability to be self-motivated to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to think clearly and possess sound judgment abilities.
- Ability to write in a clear legible manner.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed.
- Ability to perform maintenance on utility control equipment.
- Ability to perform service testing and troubleshooting activities
ON THE JOB TRAINING
Provide employee with an overall exposure to distribution equipment used and specialized training on systems utilized by Jones-Onslow EMC so the employee can move to positions of increasing responsibility.
Trains when schools are provided by Jones-Onslow EMC.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal working conditions inside and outside the building. Regular working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, except company observed holidays.
