The Power Quality Engineering Technician Sr. is a skilled individual responsible for carrying out CoServ’s strategic initiatives related to Power Quality and Reliability. This position will be expected to work with members on service issues which may exist within the member’s facility or on the distribution system. This position will also be responsible for the maintenance of special equipment controlled through Distribution Automation. This position includes field testing equipment, troubleshooting equipment, and downloading Sequence of Events from equipment. This position requires a strong understanding of Electrical Distribution Systems and knowledge of technical software applications that control those systems.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Programs, commissions, downloads Sequence of Events and confirms performance parameters, and setups for distribution equipment and controls
Programs, calibrates, maintains, and repairs automatic capacitor banks and controls, step voltage regulators, automatic source transfer gears, and electronic reclosers
Thermal imaging and inspections of distribution and consumer equipment
Speaks directly with members to identify power quality concerns and recommends remedies and provides resolution to those issues
Works in aerial lifts in power zone to perform maintenance of distribution equipment
Uses live line tools to perform maintenance on overhead and underground distribution equipment
Uses technical equipment such as power quality monitors, infrared cameras, parabolic microphones, phase ID, and EMF meters to address member concerns with equipment
Assists System Planning with load management and voltage regulation
Assists System Planning on balancing load on distribution feeders
Provides GIS with necessary field data after changes are made to ensure our maps are correct
Assists with bucket rescue training for Distribution Technology personnel and recertifies those employees annually
Performs battery replacement and maintenance on all DA controlled equipment
Performs insect control in Distribution equipment monthly
Assists with Forensic investigations related to distribution equipment failures
Coaches less experienced Power Quality Engineering Technicians
Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Secondary Position Responsibilities
Attends meetings, schools, and conferences to be informed of the latest equipment available; keeps updated and knowledgeable of the latest technology and developments in distribution equipment as reported in professional periodicals, journals, and utility associations
Inspects work sites to ensure safe and efficient operation; logs deficiencies with equipment and takes action to resolve those deficiencies
Adheres to Department policies, procedures, as well as State and Federal regulations
Attends Distribution Technology Department, other departmental or CoServ meetings as needed or directed and assists with departmental safety meetings
Must be proactive in seeking solutions for the department and be self - motivated to take ownership of job responsibilities
Assists with CoServ's Emergency Action Plan
Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Education and Certifications Required
High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.

Experience Required
Four and a half years in the electric utility industry working as a lineman
Experience Preferred
Two years of power quality trouble shooting experience with Documented Certifications
Skills and Abilities Required
Strong understanding of metering, material handling, and electric distribution and high voltage equipment
Ability to operate office machinery, such as copier, fax machine and personal computer and use various electric distribution and high voltage equipment programming software as well as Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, SharePoint)
Excellent grammar and composition skills
Ability to work in a team-based environment and achieve common goals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work efficiently and safely as well as plan and schedule own work
Ability to maintain accurate records and be proficient with technical details
Ability to apply mathematical theory to calculate metering information
Self-starter, organized, and able to work with limited supervision
Ability to prioritize projects
Ability to concentrate and complete procedures in an error free manner

Understands and carries out complex oral and written instructions

Physical Requirements
Works outdoors 95% of the time in all types of weather conditions and environmental conditions such as fallen branches, rough terrain, heavy underbrush, etc.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Drives company vehicle.
Works extended hours as needed or directed.
Works at heights up to 100 feet above ground.
Works in no or low light conditions – using handheld lantern or spotlights.
Works in potentially hazardous conditions caused by pets and wildlife in or near the work site.
Works in areas with possible exposure to poison oak, poison ivy, and insect stings.
Climbs a pole with belt and equipment or hand tools weighing 40-50 pounds.
Performs call out duties.
Works in underground confined spaces.
Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.

Residence requirements: resides within 5 minutes from service area for response time
Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license
Bucket Rescue Certification or ability to obtain after hire
