South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is a not-for-profit electric distribution, fiber service provider, member-owned cooperative. The cooperative is a leader in distribution technology and is headquartered in a new and progressive facility in Martinsville, Indiana. SCI REMC serves seven counties including Morgan, Monroe, Owen, Brown, Johnson, Putnam, and Clay with over 3,650 miles of energized lines and 34,000+ meters serving 29,300 members.
The Fiber Division of SCI REMC offers quality broadband services to homes and businesses plus fiber transport systems to ensure a reliable network service with a high level of member/subscriber experience satisfaction. The project has been fast moving and near completion with over 7,500 residential members connected right now.
SCI REMC is adding Fiber Construction, O&M Specialists to the team. The best candidates will have leadership skills as well as technical skills! The responsibilities and qualifications are written broadly to describe our optimum skill level. We may also be willing to train a highly motivated, technically inclined individual with minimal direct skills, too.
This key position’s general responsibilities include:
- Maintaining, operating, and constructing SCI REMC’s outside fiber plant.
- Splicing drops and large count cables, troubleshooting, and testing fiber plant utilizing a variety of tools such as an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR).
- Training and mentoring other fiber operations and staff team members regarding fiber maintenance, operations, construction, testing and troubleshooting.
- Serving as the backup to the Team Leader, Fiber Construction and O&M.

** QUALIFICATIONS **
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
- One to three years of hands-on, demonstrated working experience with fiber construction, troubleshooting, and maintenance, with five years of experience preferred.
- One to three years of hands-on, demonstrated working experience with the operation and usage of aerial lifts, pole/structure climbing, and lashing device operations, with five years of experience preferred
- Splicing skills with all fiber counts (including mainline) with good troubleshooting abilities and the ability to read fiber documents are required for the top Fiber Construction, O&M Specialist position. Relevant experience and knowledge will be considered for other specialist levels, too.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to understand and effectively use the Cooperative’s mapping systems.
- Must be able to interact effectively with members and customers in a variety of situations, exercising good judgment and maintaining a positive company image. Must have excellent customer service skills.
- Must be proficient in computers.
- Must have good organizational and self-motivational skills.
- Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with a variety of individuals.
- Must be able to work well with others and work independently.
- Must be regular in work attendance.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license if needed.
