Position Summary
This position is responsible for implementing network communications and solution improvements, proposing and implementing system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the computer network.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Improve service and efficiency with progressive technology
Design, install, test and troubleshoot the local area networks and wide area networks
Conduct performance tuning
Write specifications for hardware, select hardware and determine warranty requirements
Integrate multiple technologies, hardware and software
Manage inventory, track maintenance and ensure vendor contract provisions are met
Write plans to support the infrastructure network needs
Document Information Technology Department procedures
Train Information Technology staff in the management of the network
Design, monitor and provide reports on enterprise network performance
Prepare disaster recovery plan and business resumption plan for the infrastructure systems
Develop systems with provisions for continuity of operations during any disaster recovery or other emergency situations
Interact with end users to ensure quality network and system utilization
Consult with users, management, vendors and technicians to assess computing needs and system requirements
Install, maintain and monitor security measures
Ensure compliance with NERC, FERC and ERCOT Reliability standards including Critical Infrastructure Protection Standards
Participate in maintaining availability of Control System environments
Document changes made to systems or equipment through appropriate change management, communications and record keeping practices
• Maintain the security of confidential information
• Stay abreast of advances in technology
• Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of using computers and computer systems, including hardware and software to set up functions, enter data or process information
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction
Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, TFTP, routing, firewalls, e-mail, distributed authentication, VPN’s, telecommunications issues and other network administration concerns, particularly in complex LAN and WAN environments
Skilled in time management
Skilled in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing and changing priorities
Skilled in identifying, analyzing and resolving problems
Ability to set priorities
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to listen to and understand information verbally and in writing

Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
