The Board of Directors of The Association of Illinois Electric Co-ops (AIEC), working with Holmes Executive Search LLC, is seeking candidates for the position of President/CEO. The current CEO has announced his retirement and the Board is looking for a dynamic leader to continue and nurture its positive reputation and relationships within the state and the electric cooperative program. 

AIEC is the service organization for member electric and telephone cooperatives in the state of Illinois and their associate organizations. To achieve this objective, the association provides a variety of services for its member-systems. These include coordination of safety programs, training of line personnel, legislative research and information, member communication programs, public relations and regulatory compliance.  The AIEC also publishes Illinois Country Living, which is distributed monthly to consumer-members of subscribing electric cooperatives throughout the state.

The board of directors of the AIEC consists of 30 member-cooperatives, representing each of its member-systems – the 25 electric distribution cooperatives and five power generation and transmission cooperatives. One director is elected by and from the board of directors of each member cooperative. The six telephone cooperatives operating in Illinois are non-voting members of the AIEC.

AIEC seeks candidates with 10 years of electric utility or related experience with a minimum of 5 years of senior management experience.  A cooperative minded person is preferred.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership, communication and consensus building skills.  A four-year college degree in a related area is preferred.  Applicants should possess a strong understanding of the electric utility industry, legislative and political processes.

The position reports directly to the Board of Directors and is accountable to the leadership and stakeholders of the member owners; experience and a strong understanding of the governance structure and CEO / Board relations is desired.  Candidates must have visionary leadership and the ability and desire to work with an existing talented staff to accomplish the goals of the Association.
