Position Function: To conduct and supervise the safety program for cooperative employees. To ensure compliance of safety standards and provide maximum service to the membership by accurately and effectively managing the activities of the cooperative in accordance with established objectives, polices, and plans, to obtain increased member and public understanding and acceptance. Responsible for all cooperative employee and member safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for investigating all accidents, near misses, and safety concerns, which may include vehicle accidents, employee accidents, and electrical contacts. Completes required reporting and recommends preventative measures.
Creates, coordinates, and presents safety programs for all employees. This includes the monthly JT&S programs.
Conducts safety inspections of facilities, work sites, equipment, and work activities. Recommends corrective actions or measures.
Designs and coordinates, along with the established Safety Committee, the implementation of the overall safety program and goals for SPE.
Provides needed assistance in emergency situations. This includes, but is not limited to, liaison for mutual aid crews, coordinating SPE crews, assessing damage throughout the cooperatives service territory, and general services throughout a major event.
Shall be knowledgeable in all applicable safety codes as they pertain to the cooperative's business activities and any accidents that occur therein, including but not limited to the National Electric Safety Code, Worker's Compensation programs, and OSHA rules and regulations.
Administer safety accreditation program.
Administer the property and casualty insurance program.
Contact members with liability issues or complaints. This will include damage done by SPE.
Assist with the administration of the drug and alcohol program in cooperation with Human Resources Department.
Administer rubber glove testing program.
Assists in Emergency Response operations including medical, fire and evacuations/rescue, designating responders, training and scheduling drills.
Maintains all records relating to the safety program of the cooperative and complies monthly safety statistics for senior management.
Will be responsible for the Cooperatives Safety Demonstration Trailer.

Position Requirements:
A bachelor's or associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field is preferred. Minimum experience in a safety related role of five (5) years is required.
The following certifications and licensures are preferred: Certifies Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP). Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP) and OSHA 30 Hour Course.
Baring prior completion, successful completion of the NRECA Loss Control Internship Program within three years of hire date will be required. Continuing education in related safety programs and procedures is expected.
Must be knowledgeable of electric utility operations and safety practices. An exceptional educational background may be considered for a portion of this experience requirement.
Must believe in, be sympathetic with, and be interested in furthering the Cooperative's objectives.
Must possess a strong desire to promote and produce good safety practices to employees and public in general.
Must be able to work with all cooperative employees in the best interest of the Cooperative.
Must be able to read and write programs to cover the needs of safety for all employees, members and the public.
Must be able to work after regular working hours, as needed, due to electrical outages, etc.
Must be able to interact well with the public and answer questions concerning SPE's policies and procedures.
Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must be able to work well with diversified groups as well as individuals.
Must be able to gain and maintain respect from fellow employees.
Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License.
