East Texas Electric Cooperative (ETEC) is an electric cooperative headquartered in Nacogdoches, Texas. ETEC generates and transmits wholesale electricity ultimately to 10 distribution cooperatives that reach over 340,000 homes and businesses. ETEC serves load in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) as well as the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports to the Director of Transmission Systems (DOTS). The purpose of this position is to be a Maintenance Technician who is responsible for the overall maintenance functions of transmission, substation, communications, and other maintenance as required. Directs contractors responsible for construction, operation and maintenance of transmission lines, substations, and works closely with IT personnel as required to assist with installation and maintenance of the communications infrastructure.
Assists with monitoring all facilities
Quarterly Substation inspections for NERC compliance, including battery checks
Determines repairs required at each station and either completes or coordinates the repairs
Assists with annual transmission line inspections and maintenance
Assists with outage restoration and repairs: Communications, Substation, and Transmission
Performs meter tasks as assigned by the DOTS
Coordinates testing and maintenance on all meters on an annual basis
Installs new meters as required
Investigates and corrects any meter issues that arise
Coordination with IT staff as required
Assists with Inventory management, including taking inventory of all ETEC field and warehouse equipment
Assist with all CAPEX projects, including overseeing contractors to ensure they are working as intended
Other areas of interest as determined by the DOTS and Maintenance Technician
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Two to five years of prior experience working hands-on with and knowledge of electric substation, transmission, and SCADA systems
Broad knowledge of electric utility operations sufficient to carry out the requirements of the position.
Sound communication skills. Able to clearly present information through the spoken or written word, including monthly reports; conveys information effectively; listens well.
Ability to manage multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines
Analytic ability and creativity, analyzing information and recommending solutions is required.
Strong member service orientation
Demonstrated level of professionalism and positive attitude
Ability to travel, including overnight travel.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Associate degree in a related field
Working knowledge of DC systems, including 125VDC, 48VDC and 24VDC
Working knowledge of communications equipment, including SCADA and network equipment
