Great River Energy is seeking a plant systems engineer to provide engineering and project management for maintaining and improving Great River Energy generation facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and develop concepts, plans and specifications for proper design, construction, and operation of new and existing plant equipment or other assigned projects. Manage projects by working directly with scheduling, purchasing, and contractors to ensure accurate, economic, and timely completion.
Investigate and evaluate equipment failures and minor system changes to maintenance and operational procedures and practices to achieve optimum system and equipment performance.
Provide technical support services, including researching specific requirements, preparing cost estimates, contributing to design decision, determining procedures for obtaining qualified contractors and awarding contracts, obtaining field measurements, and performing calculations as needed to support engineering activities.
Assist with equipment inspections during unity outages to provide analysis and technical assessments.
Perform work involving complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures in order to develop new or refined equipment, materials, process, products, or methods.
Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others to maintain engineering quality assurances and controls. Act as staff advisor and consultant in technical specialty to provide engineering expertise while seeking solutions to operational problems.
Complete detailed planning of project needs and outage maintenance for up to one year in the future and general planning of programs implementation for up to five years in the future which supports company mission and vision. Drive GRE vehicles to other sites.
Provide project management on complex modification projects requiring unconventional or novel approaches and sophisticated research techniques in order to monitor and control project expenditures against the established budget and to prepare and maintain schedules.
Perform work involving a number of projects of major scope and importance. Conceive, plan and conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity and develop new designs or techniques to improve optimum plant efficiencies.
Study new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization. Act as a technical specialist in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles and processes for assigned area of responsibility while seeking to improve plant efficiencies.
Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, procedures, laws and regulations. Report and investigate accidents, maintain safety awareness, and promote all aspects of Great River Energy’s (GRE’s) safety program. Report all noncompliance and endorse all aspects of GRE’s environmental management programs.
Education & Experience
Bachelors of science degree in engineering required. FE or PE preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge and application of thermodynamics and heat transfer
Knowledge and application of motors, generators and fans
Knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
Ability to read schematics and logic diagrams
Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS office suite, project scheduling software
Ability and responsibility to work safely alone and with others while following GRE safety rules, certifications and procedures
Ability and responsibility to ensure security procedures are followed including immediate notification of potential incidents

Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, walk and stand; talk both in person and by telephone; use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities include close and distant focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels. Subject to occasional vibration and hazards and on occasion exposed to fumes, dust or mist. Must wear protective equipment when required. Drive GRE vehicles to other sites.
